i think you are really kidding as far as aswad is concerned.can you imagine aswad without their frontman brinsley dan?

I thought the question was does any one know what happened to Aswad and does anyone have any information on what they are doing now.

I'm very careful about answering threads on this forum nowadays as some people use it as an opportunity to flex there reggae knowledge muscle and not give the information asked for in the original thread.

Fadel- because a band is not in it's original form does not mean it is not worthy of staying together and pleasing the fans who have supported them.

Should the Wailers not go on the road because Bob Marley is not with us?
Should Roots Radics not use the name because there are only 2 original members?
Should Led Zepplin not reform because there drummer died 20+ years ago?
How many original Skatelites in the band?

Line ups change all the time, but fans will still pay to see their heroes regardless of who is in the band.

If people on this site just want to let us know how much reggae knowledge and history they know, start up your own reggae knowledge quizgame.

If i needed to know the history of Aswad i would call Drummie or Tony myself.

If you really want to test me on Reggae knowledge, ask a question like who was in the room when Brinsley left the band or even what country were they in at the time.

and the name is donstrumental not don instrumental.

Bless

hi don
i am not at all trying to show any knowledge.i don't even pretend to have any still we all learn new things about reggae and vintage regggae music that we did not know.i think greg asked what became of aswad and he insisted on relating to the 2 first which indeed gathered the majority of the founding members.apart from drummie zeb who is featured on the original line up what's left of aswad?of course i don't deny them the right of calling themselves aswad, but objectively and naturally those who knew the band will always have a tendency to asking what became of the lea d singer?why did he leave?there is no accounting for taste i don't deny the fact.we are not talking about the history o aswad.it's about having a sense of objectivity when speaking about a band.latter date's reggae fans mostly overlook part of this story when speaking about a band.likewise you cannnot speak third world without mentioning ibo, carrott and willie.clinton fearon could never be forgotten when speaking of gladiators even though people will always call gladiators any band that feature at least albert griffiths.
that is all that i wanted to say but didn't pretend to detain any knowledge abou the music.
love and no hard feelings

one thing is for sure is that aswad without Brinsley Forde as not the same vibes, so i don't think that there is a new singer and i hope it cause it will be very strange !!! take the case of Black uhuru with their new singer (can't remember the name), the 2 lasts albums were not good at all and it's bad for the image of the band.

I agree with Fadel that if Aswad was on the Top it was thanks to brinsley Forde, can not imagine what the band will be without his soulful voice.

And if the band still is tourning is because they have a nice past in the world of reggae. i saw Aswad i nParis 2 years ago and Angus Gaye who is a good singer too sang a lot of songs written by B. Forde

So to conclude This band is touring in the shadow of the original band and singer. I took the example of Black uhuru and Fadel took the exemple of Steel pulse and he is right because believe me when i heard the black uhuru concert i was disapointed !!! very bad vibes !!! but the band played in the name of black uhuru, so black uhuru without Mikal rose is not pretty good so its the same thing with aswad without Forde. so can not imagine that their is a new singer !!! but if its true, What a shame using the name of Aswad

Aswad's biggest worldwide hit, "Don't Turn Around," was with their current lead singer. If you like something else, that's fine, but I wouldn't call it a shame.

You know, I don't mean to come off as a hot-head, but when you insult the current configuration of someone's favorite reggae group, it feels personal. Music taste is very personal, so it's hard to have an "only business, nothing personal" discussion. I think it's great to share opinions, but maybe remember to try not to insult someone's musical taste. Also, to many, the term "soulful" can certainly apply to Drummie's singing. I guess soulful is a very subjective term as well.

yes you ve right the "don't turn around" tunes was a hit but i rather "can't stand the pressure" or concrete slaveship" not satisfy". sorry i m a roots radical and don't want to hurt someone or judge somone's tastes. but i think that in this forum most of people rather roots tunes than pop tunes. i share my opinion & it's nice to have different point of views. a lot of band had change their vibes for business, but that 's life they didn't have the choise because of the producer.

But according to me Aswad is one of my favorite band i love their albums from "aswad" to "not satisfy" for the other ones i only like some tracks from distand thunder , soul rebel and to the top LPs. After thoses ones i don't like at all but it's my taste.

Kindly share with me on what really happend to the Aswad Band and why Brinsley Ford had to part ways with the two brothers.

Who ever has information please write me to detail as to the reason why. I have loved the combination of the three, Brinsley, Tony and Drummie, such that I have been very disapointed with their split.
