Have you heard of this new artist called Jimmy Screech?! i went to see roots manuva in october at shepard's bush empire and he was supporting them, he was awesome!!!!

his style is reggae/ hip-hop with some dancehall thrown in, its really great stuff! Klacidis i think you would really like it! its very summery.

his new song, 'wood for the treez' has just come out on itunes, amazon, napster etc. its really catchy. i read somewhere that rodney, aka roots manuva, really likes him, and wants him to tour with him more!! i also found a website by his label, MAP Music, where you can buy his old album, In This Life, its really good, i bought it! cant believe he hasnt got fanous before really!

check him out, he plays in lodnon quite a bit, im going to see him on thursday, 11th dec, with nightmares on wax!!!! its gonna be great!

I think this depends on what age you are. I've met some younger producers who know their reggae and dub very well but graduated to it after their experience of listening to hip hop and rap in their teens - that was what was cool and happening at the time for them. I'm just old enough to have sort of missed the relevance and appeal of rap and hip hop when it came along, having grown up on a healthy diet of reggae, dub, punk, rock etc.

As to the hybrid reggae hip hop thing - what I've heard of it doesn't appeal to me at all but if people like it, good for them. It would be worse if such developments were not happening - it is good that music keeps evolving whether we like the results or not.

There are a lot of links from hip hop to reggae for sure. Has anyone else ever noticed that Busta Rhymes often sounds Jamaican???

He sounds a lot like Danny English to me.

What about Kardinal Offishall, his hiphop is also very influenced by reggae.

Everything I know is influenced by Reggae and Dub...needless to say perhaps!

Hip - Hop in the early years 1984 - 1996 really cared about beats/rhythms and that was the foundation of the tunes. As most hip-hop poeple listened to reggae and reggae people listened to hip-hop. There was also the same message coming from both in lyrics and feel of the music. And a lot of hip-hop used multi-lingwah in their rapping. They used bass in way that reggae does in that it had its own rhythm.
