waouh, me too... I would rather recognize "The Roots Radics", "Soul Defenders"... etc but very few players of instruments based on their style... Sly, Pablo, Family Man, Jr Dan, maybe... But no more... One day maybe!

Once again great thread guys!!! Let me just say that I love being a roots musician. I play many different styles of music. Including some very complicated Latin Jazz, and fusion stuff. But NOTHING is as satisfying as playing a more simple but grooving pattern for some roots. When everyone is clicking in a roots band, It's really hard for any other type of music to beat that groove. I also go to school for music and let me tell you that your right, they don't teach this stuff in school. It is something that must be learned from years of watching and listening. But like I said, the payoff is huge. Roots music is definitely the most satisfying type of music for me to play.
