The Technics SL-1200 models are great, durable machines. I bought in the late 80's, and haven't had any issues with either of them over the years. They are workhorses, very dependable.

Hi-fi system is material for home use. We say "materiel de salon" in french, lounge.

Low-fi doesn't represente something particular. Ir's an expression like "vintage".

Be patience if you want to find YOUR MK2! Some prices are excessive. But sometimes... a friend have found an old for 60€...

do what feels right.
If I had $ to buy i would be buying lots of vinyl - these days i find what i can from wherever. your ears will guide you!
Guilt is for the weak. Don't think you're giving anything back to the artist if you buy the vinyl or CD unless you are buying direct.

Just spread the word and make ROOTS as big as it should be...then we can argue about the morals of sharing.

Regarding the turntable, I'm fairly happy with my Gemini SV 2200 DJ style turntable that was not terribly expensive a few years ago. It is very adjustable and robust. (and heavy) Of course the guys on here that have put more time and effort into these issues have been able to point you to better stuff. My point really is, buy what you can afford and the music will come through either way.

Of course I was joking when I said guilt is for the weak - hope Water Slinger was joking too!
Obviously guilt is more complex than that, but frankly there is too much of it about and always has been that way.

Do what you need to do to feel right with yourself!
I've spent $1,000s over the years buying music. I've been giving my own music away for years. I have no qualms about getting some payback!
