fab, still waiting to see what digi you speak of on this ghetto rock lp.....was recorded 83/84 ish by mad professor at ariwa before he got into his digital stage bro. i think you just hearing the murder mixing techniques my mad P which make LIVE instruments not sound like they usually do.

I mean only it: this is sound from music of 1980's with some synthetisers sometimes... Far of the classic sound of 1970's! Its evident! (first times that i had this album it was on tape, a firend and myself has still think that the album was digital)
But remember, for me the sound is ok, but i know that for some people the sound is bad...

its a tough call about years, because so many great records were relesed after 83 but a lot of them were actually recorded several years earlier. some released in 83 were even recorded on 1980. record labels shelved lps a lot of times because of various reasons. an exampled of this is johnny clarke give thanks lp- this one was definatley recorded at the same sessions as yard style which was released in 83, so it was prolly recorded late 82ish maybe 83.

For me most of Cultures album after 1983 sounded good but not great. I think it has a lot to do with Joseph Hills uplifting messages.

i totally share your views and particularly the year 1983 i have personnally been citing for more than 15 years now as the date not go beyond when it comes to recording something for me.and oftentimes i have been dubbed as narrow-minded or extremist.but i wouldn't care.with a little hindsight people came to find out that reggae lost it's human-friendly concerns because particularly of the dancehall beat and the many records produced by junjo lawes mainly and the monotony of the records churned out by the radics particularly.
neevertheless i would cite the gladitors lp which came as part of the showdown vol.with don carlos and which included titles like"i know everything""that no right"'can't stop righteousness'etc...,yabby you fleeing from the city'talisman'takin the strain'of which iam looking for some info on the liner notes,maybe the skatalites return of the big guns.thereare not too many according to me.i agree that drum programming and syndrums have been very devastating for reggae.
