itsa friendly nice poppish pollished uk sound.but dont mistake poor recordings for authenticity in ja.why did the uk sound form ?i dont kno?i think md is onto at least partly something.

Different singers and/or different players and/or different instruments and/or different studios...

It's like food. Unless you copy/paste all elements - like Mac Donald's perhaps - results change from one dish to another, with even the slight difference in 1 parameter.

Loved the youtube clip, robItheselector. It was interesting to spot Rico backing Roy Shirley and a very young Drummie Zeb and Tony Gad supporting Delroy Washington. Regarding the different sound between the UK & JA, don't forget that those involved in creating the UK sound were intent on creating a unique sound that represented their own experience. They were the children of the Windrush generation, not Jamaican. They were born in 1960's Britain, which could be a very racist place to be, especially when dealing with the authorities. Who remembers the SUS laws? I'm Irish and lived in London at that time and remember how tuff it could be.

No doubt about it, for me the Saxon sound era of early 1980s was much better than Aswad or any other group from uk at the time.We had MC heaven , you could take your pick from a host of DJs , men like Smiley culture, Asher Senator, Papa Levi, Peter King, and Macka B.

More like mid-80s (84-87).
Many riddims recorded by Aswad members actually (who were session musicians for labels like Fashion)), very versatile musicians.
