"music Lesson" on Solomonic presents the never ending wailers is not the original track, Bunny made that album years after bob had passed, if you listen to that track it has drum machines on it, and the original track doesn't have a digital sound. The earliest sounding one, seems to be on the "Grooving Kingston 12" set. Thanx to Ron, Manfas, Bellyman, and Goldfinger for helping me get this clear. P&L

The 12" and album version doesn't have drum machines, they are Simmonds drums played by Sly.
The version on Grooving Kingston 12 is a dubplate, but also features a rebuilt rhythm. The original version without overdubs has never been issued.

On the Universal/JAD 'Man To Man' box set, disc 4, is an alternate mix of "Hammer". When listening to it, it strikes me how much it resemble "Music Gonna Teach" on the 'Grooving Kingston 12' box set. It got the same mixing style, similar riddim and Bob's vocal well pitched.
The Man To Man booklet states that the Hammer mix "features Sly'n'Robbie providing a new rythm to the original vocal and was recorded in the early 1980's". It is tempting to asume that the "Music Gonna Teach" version on Grooving Kingston 12 was recorded at the same time. And I agree with Dhuffly, it is very much Channel One!
Here's a sample with both recordings to give you an idea of what I mean:

Apart from 'Music Lesson' aka 'Music gonna teach' and 'Hammer' there were also overdubs/remixes done to 'I'm still waiting', 'How many Times' and 'It hurts to be alone', all the same way.

True, Bellyman. They are all spread out on the Universal box sets. At least "I'm Still Waiting" goes in style with the Hammer and Music gonna teach overdubs. I love the style on those three recordings. 'How many..' and 'It hurts..' are not that successfull though.
Funny that Bunny Wailer had exactly the same tunes overdubbed again for his Never Ending Wailers-album...!
