I believe it has to do with the recording equipment.
Definitely nothing to do with recording equipment.
I'll try and check this evening as I definitely have liner notes relating to it somewhere at home.
Pretty sure it's the name of an historical, religious figure.

I'm happy to stand corrected, but am convinced that is incorrect.

It's actually I who wrote that little piece on Tetrack at Reggaepedia. The information was from in interview in Reggae Quarterly.
The group does have a MySpace I think ... send them a message and ask?

Regarding their name, I understand that the word is a phonetic spelling of the Greek word Tetrarch, this according to wikipedia:

I think 6anbatte may be correct. I also have a vague recollection from an interview or album sleeve, that Tetrack was a Roman general (possibly born in Africa).

According to the group themselves, they named a neighbourhood sound system. This was told by the group themselves.
If you want to know why the sound owner called his set "Tetrack", you would have to ask him!
Carlton Hines is also responsible for writing many songs performed by others, including Gregory Isaac's "Rumours". A talented bunch.

Well, I remember an interview with the group where they said that the sound owner named his sound after the greek word, though he may have thought it was a Roman word... can't recall where I read it though.

From Solid Foundation;
Carlton Hines - ".....there was a sound system called Tetrack......Tetrack is really the title of a provincial ruler in the Roman Empire."
