Crucial Dub put me to sleep and Kamikazi Dub is good, but not essential.

Wonder what's in store for Vol 7. More scrapeing the barrel?
my guess is scientist - and that would be good compared to all the mediocre Shit in this Series.
An Evolution of dub Series without Pablo and Perry can Be rated As joke anyway.

to Kevin: yes, the recordings of 'Uhuru in Dub' are on the GS double set GRE2051 (and have been released as artist Sly & Robbie on CD (CSA CD 100) way back in 1987. I apologize if impressions appear that this is 'rare'. Thre mastering of the CD in this box-set is better than before, the sound is minimum slightly better.

and to all: I think the Vol.7 will not make it to be the Scientist one (for law suit reasons - see old forum contributions - and even there are alone two Volumes for Scientist as minimum alone necessary :-) - I've been told that there is a complete 'Junjo' Lawes productions unreleased album by Scientist in the archives, but can't be released)

to informer: For sure I agree that this series is 'nothing for real' without Augustus Pablo (very expensive to realise) and Lee Perry (even more expensive :-).

Please don't forget that this series is mainly for the real young people, the 'internet generation' - even with an attractive price it's not that easy to get them 'on board' - they don't have a clue for the original versions to compare with, that don't count for them - 'it's massive sound ot nothing' - (don't forget the bass sound of Dusstep) - four albums for the price a little more than one full price CD is pretty cool, and not to forget the booklet notes are the ones for Roots Archives members :-).

And to come back to the subject - Prince Jammy wasn't an astronaut - he was a pupil of King Tubby!

I try to enforce the makers of this series as hard as I can that the series shouldn't be limited to seven volumes, better to 70 volumes :-) - any help in contacting labels & producers is much appreciated.

I woudln't say all was sh*t. The Joe Gibbs African Dub, Niney stuff, Tubby's Roots of Dub/Dub Roots, Brass Rockers are all essential. Granted they have also been released before.

In the main the whole series is a big let down but they can only release what they have rights to and I bet they don't want to be paying hefty license fees for Pablo and Perry stuff etc.

you guys are never happy! you have to take into account that not everyone looking to buy these albums with the same experience with reggae labels/reissues/mastering debates etc that you have. some of us simply wanna know if uh the actual music is any good. kamikaze dub is good, i like it, but then thats probably cos ive gotten used to all the tracks from the trojan dub box sets (does that annoy people?)

My comments were on what I thought are the merits of the music not on the mastering etc. I had never heard Kamikaze Dub before and IMHO thought it tame compared to other dubs by Jammy. It's all down to personal preference.
Also, IMHO I think some of the other Evolution of Dub boxes are lame irrespective of the quality of the mastering etc.

"Kamikazi Dub" has some great rhythms, some of Jammy's best. I think the problem most people have with Jammy's particular dub style is it's way more subtle than Tubby's or Scientist's, the 2 people he is most often compared to.

The "Was Prince Jammy An Astronaut" box would have been much better if they'd included "Prince Jammy Destroys The Invaders" instead of the lame "Osbourne In Dub" CD. But the most significant thing is that the boxset makes "Kamikazi Dub" available again at a reasonable price, because the out of print 1997 version had been escalating in price for years.

Jah bless.

'Invaders' was re-released on CD not too long ago by the same company. Put that in the box and you piss people off.

I have Volume 5 in this series, and as much as I enjoy the music - Earthquake Dub is particularly fine - the list of classic King Tubbys studio dubs in the accompanying booklet has proved to be a useful primer, both for new roecords to check out and old ones to return to. Are there similar lists in the other boxes?
