HAVE JUST RECENTLY DISCOVERED THIS SITE, SO SORRY IM A BIT LATE ON THIS ONE, BUT WAS READING REGARDING THE PHRASE "LICKWOOD MEANS FORWARD, THE GUNSHOT MEANS REWIND, YOU REQUSTED IT, SO WE REWIND".I DONT KNOW WHO ORIGINATED THIS PHRASE BUT I REMEMBER BEING AT DANCES BACK IN THE DAY AND A WICKED TUNE WOULD COME ON AND THE PLACE WOULD JUST ERUPT WITH PEOPLE BANGING THERE BEER BOTTLES ON SPEAKERBOXES (HENCE THE PHRASE LICKWOOD) AND FIRING GUNSHOTS INTO THE AIR (THANKFULLY BLANKS MOST OF THE TIME),AND THE SELECTOR WOULD DROP THAT LINE AND PULL UP THE TRACK.THANKS FOR REMINDING ME OF SOME WICKED DANCES. GONNA GO AND SEE IF I CAN FIND SOME OF MY OLD DANCEHALL TAPES NOW.

the phrase is "lick wood means rewind" - in JA, to "lick wood" is to slap your hand on the stage, wall, whatever... an old saying from the early days of dances when venues had wood stages.
