Yes Kookahman,
Yabby You was Rasta, but then he "accept" jesus, and his faith after was kind of a hybrid belief of Rasta/Christianity...I think that's why they called him "jesus dread." A lot of other Rastas didn't respect him for that, felt he was false.
Peace & Respect

Hi Judge Dread
The book actually says (and I quote) "Although Perry had not yet fully embraced the faith outwardly the Emperor's visit made a deep impression and he began to listen to Rastafari reasoning with greater interest. He had long felt an affinity with the Rastas that made up much of his community and was also greatly appreciative of their inspirational music, heavy sounds underlined by the African spirit that inspired his wild dance."
As it said "..had not yet.." I assumed at some time in the future he did embrace it.

Yabby you has no faith in Selassie, he always claim Selassie to be false, he do not see HIM as god on earth. That's why you have lyrics about Jah in Vivian Jackson's production but none about Selassie. For Yabby you, jah is God , Selassie is HIM of Ethiopia & nothing more. From what I have been told by people who followed the man for a moment, Vivian Jackson beleve in Jesus Christ as the son of god & not about selassie. That a part of the explenation why he got some argument with rastas like Jah "Big" Yout & many more.

See,
me nah care if Tubby was Rasta or not. He always was a talented electrician. Before he started studio business he used to repair tv sets, fridges an stuff like datina him back yard.
His first mixing board he built by himself. Even some effect equipment which he needed for dubbing.
He went down to the harbour to select every single piece of wood personally which he needed to build his studio.
He is THE inventor of dub music. No dub thing without Tubby, zeen?
I`m trying to point out how genius he was. And what he gave to the reggae world. And then...shot for nothing.
So, for me it`s not too interesting if he was rasta no not. Irie vibrations are more impotant.
Cheers,
I-Lion

I think Perry definately shyed away from the Rastafari in the end. There were a lot of folks coming through his studio claiming Rastafari that were and weren't up to good. I think eventually he got burned by some of them and saw them as hypocrites. There are several songs late in his Black Ark era to this effect.

i'm not sure what lee is dealing with. i read a few of his interviews, saw one of his concerts, and i must say the vibes i picked up are vibes 100 thousand miles and running away from rasta vibes.
