I got Mickey Dread's African Anthem on Auralux, on CD. Worth getting as the extras are for once, really something.
I also have the vinyl, early press on Cruise. Although I suspect there may be a JA DATC version.

I've been digitizing my oldest and rarest vinyl to see that it's preserved. Some of the imports from JA I bought back in the '70s will most likely never be re-issued.
Much as I love vinyl, records die a little bit each time they're played due to wear from the turntable's stylus.
I was copying "Club Ska '67" (great collection if you can find it) when it hit me that here was music originally on 7-inch vinyl that had been collected on 12-inch to preserve it, and here I was digitizing that in hopes of preserving it once again.
Preserving this music is great, but I wish there was a way to get it back out to folks who may never have a chance to hear it otherwise, and yet not be called a thief for doing it. Any ideas?
Peace,
James

Yes, James - Sign up for a DJ package on a radio station stream like at Live365.com
You can digitise your stuff and then play it to the world without being a pirate.
I'm trying to organise this so I can sort out my frustrated DJ thing and play out my records to an audience.

Thanks! I have to admit I didn't think of that. I'll look into it.
Peace,
James

I'm also a frustrated DJ, but i think there's another option as i did... i've just learned how to digitize my collection and also how to use an audio editor, so i made my own mix and uploaded in one of those free uplpoad sites...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/912px5
this is the first mix i've ever made, straight from my vinils (of course the effects not...)
anyways, i still got a LOT to learn but i can already share the vibes, and also show some thinhs i've got if anyone who may hear doesn't know...
that's another way to do it... either way, when u do it James, don't forget to let us know by posting it here
Blessings,

It seems maybe your file has been pulled as I can't access it today!
The problem with posting sets to a file space like that is that you are technically breaking the copyright laws - something that james was keen to avoid.
That's the reason for suggesting a radio stream, because your subscription to the service covers your broadcast licence.

Yeah, i understand your point leggo... people can actually download the mp3 to their own computer and share it with others, you're right at it...
But that's why i made a mix with some efx and speeching (like it was a radio, just a test to maybe do something similar on the website i'm working on...) ..so this way the guy have my mix, with a couple of songs together, a bit different from their original version coz i manipulated them in my pc... and if the guy like's any of the songs he'll search for the original one (like i do)...
I know it's hipocrisy to think that everyone want's to download music and break the copyrights law only beacuse they wanna find if the song is good or not to buy the original... i personally know many people who proudly say they "collect" mp3's.... I'm not in favor of it, but i can't say i'm against mp3 coz it helped me a lot with my record collecting addiction, since money is so spare nowadays, and i really don't want to buy stuff only to collect, BUT to hear....
Just a point of view i wanted to share, but i still agree with you and i'll probably start thinking of this radio service you said to do some deejay and link to my website...
Respect,

I dont like downloading MP3s either...I actually do sample a lot of stuff on itunes and buy. Kind of funny some of the old stuff you find on itunes. But anyways, if you do download old classic reggae MP3s specifically, I dont blame or cant hate on you. Because most of this stuff is so rare there is just no other way. And on top of that, these artists were getting ripped off anyway...I dont see it as you ripping the artist off, but you ripping the record company that jacked them to begin with. So that is fine by me. I wonder how those broke artists feel, I would think they wouldnt mind either. But this only goes for the older reggae artist who made nothing...as the artists now, regardless of what music, loses out a lot when you get their MP3s songs for free.
First time I heard reggae was when I was 12..been hooked ever since. I am also a vinyl collector getting back in to the swing of things. There is nothing like analog on a great system...it is better than digital. I do have a lot of tapes that I bought back in the 80s...completely worthless now. Only reason I bought tapes was to listen on the go, or share with friends. Cant play vinyls in a car. And when the CD came out, a lot of stuff was reissued on CDs with more songs...so my collection started to grow there. I had a few vinyls back then. A few years ago I started selling on eBay...and I figure I should try selling some of these LPs that I had doubles of. Without doing much research, I posted one, and it turns out it sold for $120. This made me realize the value of these vinyls. I just wished I knew back then what I knew now...I would of bought everything in vinyl. I now have spent the past couple years repurchasing, in vinyl, all the albums I had on tape and CD. This site has helped me tremendously, as a lot of info on albums themselves are not published.
As some of the other members on here mentioned, I do know about the other websites that sell older rare reggae vinyls and I do not wish to share either. LOL!!
