Gotta agree with Sean.
The "tropical" image leads to F@*kwits carrying on like Troppo Clowns!
Reggae is far too down to Earth to be just congo line lunacy.
Dance with your woman or skank with your friends, but no congo line here !

This discussion is so interesting that i put down my beer and stopped eating sausages with kraut at once.
Stereotypes are annoying - for the people that are meant.
But look into yourself and you'll find heaps of stereotypes. It helps to orientate oneself in this complex world, especally with things you're not interested in.
I think it's ok to have stereotypes, but you gotta be aware that you have them and prepared to change them when you take a closer look.

Most people go like:
"So what kind of music you like?"
Me: "I listen to Reggae"
"Ohh right, yes, I love reggae too! Have you heard that new song of Sean Paul??"

Im totally agree with rootsmanx!! there's no bass culture. The popular entertainment speakers of pc and tv doesnt have any bass subwoofer, and if you cant listen to the bassline you will be bored in 2 o 3 songs, because you are missing one of the most important things in reggae music, a true and loud bassline!! I think its a technical question!
Without bass culture comes naturally reggae ignorance, once you listen to the drum and the bass, you want more for sure!!!

Never thought about those others. Maybe someone else can help. But I do have one more stereotype for metal.
"We Not Satanists", proclaims Damien Lucifer, lead singer of 666.

This clip from last night's SNL pretty much covers every reggae cliche in a Frata-man Vibration.
