even if it's nearly the same bunch of musicians i often prefer soul syndicate/aggrovators over revolutionaries, but that may have a special reason: i never liked that channle one sound too much. and they did a lot, if not the most of their work there.

Aggro also recorded a lot @ Channel One.

Actually, the Hoo Kim bro had a clear idea of what they wanted. They wanted to reproduce with the drum kit the sound from the guns they could hear by night on the Channel One area. But they didn't achieved this goal quicly and the studio setup was more or less ready before the real opening of Channel One...

So during few monthes they experimented several ideas. For instance they took care of the micro used during recording. But the real thing that changed everything was a kinda of strange idea about the drum kit recording: they put the micro behind the drum kit instead of in front of it. The next step that complete the whole thing is the Sly metronometric (not sure the word exists!) style.

And who help them to shape the sound? Bunny Lee! It appears he was the first to use the studio cause it was cheap (as it was not really ready yet). And some people say that some J Clarke stuff are among the very first tune recorded @ Channel One.

So IMHO Aggro and Revo are realy close. Two main differences are:

-Sly didn't played on a lot of Aggro stuff
-The mixing was done @ Tubby. It makes a difference with the tunes mixed @ Channel One

i prefer randy's or harry j recordings. still 1 or 2 other studios i can't recall just now.

and yes, tubby makes the difference ............

So you prefer Aggro pre 75 stuff. You right, especially with the flying cymbal style from 74.

Dread Locks Bald Head Dub by The Aggrovators is one the bust dubs I've heard in my life. Is that just a dub song or is it the version of some song?
