Besides, the Jamaican reggae musicians etc. have always had a special relationship with Amsterdam!

I forget the track, but always remember the Upsetter quote 'I wish Jamaica was like Amsterdam, quiet and nice!'

Thanks for the links to these fine concerts guys btw - I'm enjoying them for sure!

@ Ranking Trevor & others,

This item is not about JA, UK or foreign artists.
It is about the magical concerts of (mostly) JA artists which were broadcasted on Dutch radio in the past (30-20 years ago).

In the late 70s and early 80s for many Dutch people who listened to these radio shows it was the first introduction to reggae music. Besides the concerts themselves, there were no other sources of reggae music, except one other public radio station which played 15 minutes of reggae music every week, 1 or 2 pirate radio stations, and a specialized record shop in Amsterdam.

The thing about these concerts is that the musical quality of these show are so high (perhaps as a result of the smokey atmosphere at the places they were held?)
For many JA artists these shows were often also their first or second appearance in Holland, and believe me; they loved it (and still do).

Best example; Culture live at Paradiso, Amsterdam 1979 (at Rootsman's podcast).
To my opinion this is Culture at their best. No other Culture concert (of my 80 archived Culture shows) or studio album can equal this piece of music.
Same counts for the Steel Pulse shows, Eek A Mouse, and many more.

IRIE!

Culture and Steel Pulse were both fabulous live bands - I saw them in my teens (end of the 70's to v. early 80's)- they were the first live reggae acts I ever saw (first of many). Incredible concerts - superb sound - top notch players (Culture were backed by the Revolutionaries when I saw them in 78) and a fabulous reception from the audiences.

I'm amazed by this thread.

There's me busy collecting music on wax and then someone points out this wealth of no doubt stunning material floating around out there.

I am already spending every spare minute of my life searching for music, and just about every waking hour listening to it. But even within the fairly tight little genre that is reggae, I will need several lives upon this earth to hear it all!

To paraphrase a well-worn saying:

So much music, so little time!

Wassup Fadel? Is your internet connection not able to cope with these files? Too slow?

Perhaps someone with plenty of time on their hands, a good internet connection and a kind heart could download some of these shows for bredder Fedel and mail him them on some CDRs?

I would offer, but I am behind on my promises in here and already struggling to cope with the backlog of requested tunes and vinyl recordings. (sorry to all, I will deliver - eventually!)
