Though not a trio but a duo; the Mighty Maytones would be my top choice. They sing so heavenly sweet it just lifts my spirit everytime. But of course Bob, Bunny and Peter together as the Wailers are still the greatest ever. That can't even be debated.
Other acts I rate very high are the Viceroys, Jolly Brothers, Tetrack, Mighty Daimonds, Cultural Roots, Congos and Heptones. And we can't forget about the Abyssinians.
I did a little poll over at a swedish reggae forum where one of the questions were whether they prefer vocal groups or individual singers, and none went for vocal groups. That amazed me! People don't see the beauty of bredrens harmonizing together as much as they should today, which is also reflected in the fact that there's almost been no new acts coming forth for years and years. Indeed very, very sad, because I think they are one of the main ingredients in a good reggae climate.
