Leggo,
Your comment, "Then I went on to explain to the audience that, due to our vanity, our compulsive consumption and our total lack of care for the future," is precisley what I have written in my two posts, so I guess you agree with me too....

Re: Educate Yourself
I think we are all basically coming from the same viewpoint, it just seemed Chris that your first post wanted to absolve the corporations, I am pleased to see that this was obviously not your intention!

Mighty Z,
I agree that we are all coming from the same place, we may just have different ideas about how we got here.
Regards,
Chris

Re: Educate Yourself
I always laugh (or cry) when I see so-called eco-warriors stopping off at McDonalds and smoking Marlboros.
It's very very hard to do your part, but we must all try as much as we can. And going veggie is a really easy way to make a big difference (but not in all countries I'll admit).
It also happens to be better for you as well as the planet. And yes, I can supply an abundance of scientific evidence to support my claim that vegetarian diet is not only healthier, but it's also exactly what our bodies were *designed* for.
By construction we are not carnivores, nor are we omnivores, we are herbivorous creatures.
Shocking? Maybe so for some. But 100% true.

Re: Educate Yourself
Leggo; Could you please supply those studies that say so? I'm myself a vegetarian and have been for several years but always been convinced that we are omnivores.

Re: Educate Yourself
Your best source of all of this stuff is either:
Diet for a small planet -
http://www.amazon.com/Small-Planet-Fran ... 0345373669
or
Survival into the 21st Century - Viktoras Kulvinskas
http://www.amazon.com/Survival-into-21s ... B000714N82
Both of these books are pretty old now. And very prophetic!
The Diet book is part cook book part facts and figures about these issues.
The Survival book is the deeper on science and established reference. It's also very extreme. He's basically working his way to being a breatharian! But it's very informative. It examines the physiology of the herb/carn/omnivore in a scientific and chrystal clear manner. The comparisons of intestinal type, gastric fluid chemical makeup, bone structure, teeth, hands/claws, sweat, urine type simply blows away any other argument and always leaves the non-believers reeling to the extent that they become even less logical and rational.
Great reading both. Someone 'borrowed' my Diet for a small planet centuries ago, but I still have a well read and battered Survival into the 21st Century that has indeed helped me survive into these times! For better or for worse...

Eating meat is not the problem. How much we eat and the sources is the problem.Humans survived and advanced because of meat.Is true.
I have nothing against vegetariens,vegans,micro-diets,raw diets. But we should know meat isnt bad for humans unless you eat it excessively wich is true in the west.In turn that brings very questionable sources to the table.Recently cloned meat is what the scientists are doing. One group from the usa has cloned 6 cows from one strip of meat.Thats just wrong,as well as stripping the seas for meat, cutting forests for meat, not to meantion the meat factorys inhumane treatment of cattle...so on so on so on.
Eat meat sensibly no as gluttony and buy from positive minded farmers, companys and we will be allright.

Re: Educate Yourself
Sorry Bill. You are talking utter nonsense. Quite the reverse is true.Bill wrote:Eating meat is not the problem. How much we eat and the sources is the problem.Humans survived and advanced because of meat.
We were created as vegetarians, this I can prove to you, or you can prove to yourself by reading the scientific data in Kulvinskas' book.
When we started eating meat, that was when the human race started to descend into the abyss. Meat eating leads to destruction, war, famine and hatred. It's all quite logical as well.
Don't listen to Babylon's stories about hunter gatherers being the first to get civilised. It's a con, a smokescreen, a conspiracy and it is just a dumb theory with absolutely no proof or evidence to support it.
We were civilised, and have been for millions of years. And then, as this dark age dawned, we took the wrong path. The path of murder, cruelty, hatred, greed and destruction.
Eating meat is not only bad for the body and the planet, it's bad for the spirit.
Natty don't eat meat. And neither do the proper followers of just about any ancient religion or faith you'd like to mention.
here are just a few quotes from some of the greatest minds of all time:
"Truly man is the king of beasts, for his brutality exceeds them. We live by the death of others. We are burial places."
Leonardo Da Vinci (He also said that he hoped one day man would see that it is as abhorrent as eating human flesh.)
"As long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap the joy of love."
Pythagoras
"It is my view that the vegetarian manner of living, by its purely physical effect on the human temperament, would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind."
Albert Einstein
