i knew plenty of girls interested in the ska revival scene 15 years ago, and i hear that is still the case... but that's more scooter culture and a different kind of "mod" scene - not roots and dub...

Hey Super Ape!

Well, I have to desagree with you, cause I love dub,and roots, nyah, I love Prince Far I, Flabba and loooooooot of artist...
For example, Im a Jah Shaka fan, an a lot of my friends (even reggae musicians) didn't know him until I make them listen... but I have to agree that somethimes, even if you knew more about reggae than most of the men, it's kind of difficult to have your place in the reggae world being a girl.
I love reggae, I spent -not more- but maybe same money in records than clothes and cosmetic... this is a men world, but women are taking places...so.. watch ouuuuuuuut!!!

Peace, Love & Respect!

hey lady dj,
right on! you'd be a blast to hang out with!

if you read over my post, though, you'd see that i am not generalizing as much as you think- i mention that in my own experience, i have not met any gals such as you (but i wish i had!). i know that women with like minds and dub collections do exist, but unfortunately, i haven't gotten to meet any of them. i have only met some women whose musical tastes i described. so please don't misinterperet or misread my post as a disrespectful generalization, that is not at all what i am about!

i am all for total equality and peace all around; people should be able to do whatever they please as long as they are not harming any living thing or beautiful object in any fashion. but that is another post subject in itself, and such a post would probably take many hours of our time to read and write!

keep dubbin it, you sound like you;d be great to pal around with! and who cares if others think you "aren't in the same place" as them in the reggae world- what truly matters is how YOU think about yourself. and it sounds right on! if others miss out on your goodness, then that is their problem, you know?

peace
ape

My wife is a huge reggae fan, especially Horace Andy and Sugar Minott. She is less of a fan of computers, so unlikely to do forums. In common with some of the other threads that suggest men are more into the collecting and categorizing side of things, she would much rather listen and dance than talk about it on a forum. Not that she isn't into the history aspect, she enjoys talking about stuff like that, but I am the one who roots around the internet and reads the sleeve notes, she then gleans the knowledge from me. When it comes to listening, she is also content to let me select the tunes. Whether this is all part of the natural female make up, or to do with her upbringing and society norms? ... well I will let the psychologists decide!

In my experience male and female balance is fairly even at reggae events, showing that the females like the music as much as the men - they are more likely to be on the dance floor than the men!

Reggae isn't male or female. And a reggae dance without the girls would be, well, like a gay bar! It just wouldn't be the same.

Why aren't women hanging around on the forum? I guess they've got better or more pressing things to do, being a woman is a full time job you know!

Well considering the number of kids you have I guess the womans work would be more appropriate than the gay thing.

But then stranger things have happened :D

I was lucky enough to have been fully trained as a domestic God by my mother. So I taught my ex-wife to cook and once again, I've taught Laura the art. I can also operate a washing machine and vacuum cleaner!

I can also sooth a crying baby in a way that my baby mothers have always found very frustrating, only because they couldn't do it!

Ask any woman, a man who can cook goes right to the top of the selection!

However, I will confess to having been into gay bars --- Shock! Horror! --- my first wife was 'on the scene' as her best friend was gay. Very interesting...
