Reggae has a long history of artists that sound alike but that doesn't mean they are the same person. Horace Andy and Wayne Jarrett sound alike to the point where people have credited the wrong singer. There is a thread on the archive that compares sound-alikes. I do agree with mashdown45, though. Castell has a more nasal tone and doesn't have the range of Mundell, although, I still really enjoy both of Castell's LPs.

I do not had the chance yet to enjoy Hugh Mundell for 30 years, but it is also one of my favourite singers, and i do listen vinyl.
I still can not believe that they are the same, they do stop with recording both in 1983, can you prove this with other sources stepping razor?
If i listen for example Morning Glory - Lacksly Castell and then to Great Tribulation - Hugh Mundell, i mean to hear a clear difference, really clear...

Itection till time!

Goverment man was done by both the names Hugh Mundell & Lacksley Castell on different labels.
Horace Andy & Wayne Jarret sound very different to my ears and can tell the diffence.
Its like how many people sound like Dennis Brown? but if you have heard Dennis Brown for 35 years you know straight off whos who.

Is that the original Jah Fire Will Be Burning LP on Live & Love cos the reissue has bonus tracks and is listed all wrong. If your going by reissues which its not reissues when that add tracks and its on a different label. To make it easier we call them Hugh Mundell & Lacksley Castell.
But getting back to the topic heading that you tube video has no source to say where it came from.
peace

what label is the 'Hugh Mundell' credit on? I've seen 2 presses, UK & Canadian & Lacksley's name (& voice :D) was on both. (& I was talking about the original 'Jah Fire')

In my humble opinion these both great reggae singers aren't the same at all. They don't look the same and their voices are different for sure.

Hugh Mundell was shot and killed by a gunman in Grants Pen, St Andrew, in October 1983. Junior Reid was in his car when he was shot as a result of an argument over a refridgerator......

Lacksley Castell died mid 80's as a result of ilness.

If anybody gets the chance to speak to Junior Reid maybe he could ask about it.

Bless,

Go by the Originals not the so called reissue on the Arrows label.

My Jahfire says "Hugh Mundell Featuring Lacksley Castel and Augustus Pablo".

Maybe your wrong Stepping, have you considered that?

There are miscredited artists on original presses too !
listen to the voices, dont look at the credits..

since this thread won't end soon, we'll just agree to disagree (however much I hate that phrase)
