For any "non-believers":

Bob *DID* cut a dub for Jack Ruby, which I heard a piece of with my very own ears, way back in the year nineteen hundred and eighty five. It was a version of "Rainbow Country", where he sings "Hey Jack Ruby, you sure sound good to me..."

Although Jack said at the time that it was the "only" special Bob ever cut, I would believe Jah Wise when he tells you that Tippa Tone used to play them. Who really knows for sure "how many" were ever cut, except Bob himself? Quite frankly, anyone else who claims to have a definitive answer is delusional.

My question is why anyone would have trouble believing that Bob would do this, unless they subscribe to the notion of an imaginary class system, in which Bob is a "real singer", and that anyone who would cut a special be played on a sound is not.

It would have been interesting to see how Bob would have recorded in the 80's. The fact that The Wailers opened many shows on their 1980 tour with a rendition of "Stalag" shows that dancehall didn't exist in a different universe from the one they inhabited.

@ Dave K

Thank you for that. You've touched on one of my biggest reggae pet peeves: the imaginary class system between "real reggae" and dancehall.

I think that if such a Marley dub exists, record companies would have already paid lots of dunza for it to the sound that has it - like an amount you can't refuse.

i certainly wouldnt agree or disagree with any of the above about bob recording a dubplate. i just dont know. but i will say that the comment by 'huh' is correct. candyman has recorded dubplates sounding like bob marley. i have several singles by him in a sound boy fashion. also an LP called marley culture. on the sleeve notes it states 'candyman quickly found he could adopt the marley style quite naturally, and soon gained notoriety in the jamaican dancehall voicing countless specials in this guise.many sounds tried to big up their status by claiming their special to be the work of one of the marley family. king jammy unleashed a special of jamming at a world cup sound clash and astonished the audience with candymans voice being dubbed seamlessly onto the original marley cut.stone love however soon revealed the true identity of candyman to the dancehall public, and soon had him in their own studio...

some of the 7s i have include takes of 'real situation and chant down babylon (soundclash medley) crazy baldhead (crazy soundboy) and nightshift (kill a sound) and i'm sure theres one or two more there somewhere.

Well Charge, there is a lot of unreleased material of Marley that you can find on bootlegs, some of very good quality. And record companies dont release them, or one by one to have another 100 years with exclusives...

Rita said she had 100 hours of Bob's recording stored ina cooled shrank...

Its a bit the same with Studio One that holds thousands of unreleased...
