Don't want to hijack this thread but on the topic of Soul Jazz label and Studio One, the story I have been told (not confirmed) is that Coxsone Dodd gave them a licence deal in 2003 that lasted five years. This then would have expired with 2008 ending.

Hey Bellyman,
seems you have been right about Soul Jazz.
I wrote a mail, asking what happened to the Studio One series. Their answer suggests, that they are renegotiating the licence deal.
So hopefully there's more to come..

Back to The Gladiators: It ain't the pressing that's the only problem with Presenting The Gladiators. Mr Dodd has selected very flat and lifeless mixes. Having gathered together most of the tracks as 45s, I bought a copy of the JA-pressed LP years ago to have them in one handy package. I was gutted with how sh1t it sounded. So I then bought a US press. Mug. Same thing all over. Dodd didn't put the good mixes on the LP. But the Studio One Singles album for the reall sound of The Gladiators at Studio 1. For once, the comp trumps the original.

Please, could someone confirm how the the first press looks like Is it this one due to the fact that tracks title was different from later pressings (Up Town Rebel vs Down Town Rebel and Stop The Fussing vs Peace Truce)?
Other presses without Re-Arrange:
- red Studio One logo
- red Studio One Rosette logo
- ?
Thanks for your help!

I was told he bought those from the Brooklyn shop in 82'. It doesn't show up well in the scan but the label is that pastel pink (also seen the pale blue) paper label. The pressing is not bad, not the best Studio One press I have seen but in the top bracket.

I don't see how the Heartbeat releases can trump the original when there are several tracks off Presenting that aren't on either of the Heartbeat releases! Someone still needs to reissue Presenting, it's not covered by the other comps.

I've got 2 copies of this album both on vinyl. Oddly enough Hello Carol is different on each album.
On one of them the vocals are barely audible, on the other the vocals are fine.
I dont know is this is unique to a batch of pressings or not.

But, as far as I know, is just 'easy squeeze' that's missing from 'studio 1 singles' + 'The Studio One Years', isn't it?
