you know what i really dont like about him, is that most of the time he spent talking about bob marley..and everytime he spoke about him, he didnt talk positive about him....to me it is like backbiting..and i dont like that...and when i compare his style to bob bob is much better....bob never made so silly songs like nothing but love or reggaemylitis..you will love reggaemylitis..but hey the lyrics are not very brilliant.."Inna mi bone. Inna mi blood. From my toes.Up to my brain." and listening to that about 7 minutes is not very entertaining and diversified. if peter tosh would have done more albums like legalize it, equal rights und mama africa he would have been a brilliant artist, because these albums are unforgettable. thats why talking about the 2nd reggae king..it would come to me in mind people like sugar minott, barrington levy..why??? because always great albums with good quality songs. and if he would have lived longer hugh mundell but he did too young..augustus pablo also for his good quality albums...just check the jacob miller songs..to me the best songs he recorded during his lifetime...and pablo also supporting young artists like hugh mundell, yami bolo, norris reid...very strong producer he was...but of course none of them is so popular to get the title 2nd reggae king...so that is why i would chose junior reid..why??? because managing to intermingle with artists like wu tang clan, the game, alicia keys and still keep his own style is a hard job..i never heard anyone doubt junior reid religious belief although performing with mainstream artists..but of course there will be people that will hate him for that ignoring that reggae and dancehall is just a music too to entertain...just like any other music..also in the 70ies dancehalls the people went there to do what?? to dance not to pray..to be entertained not to reason...
i am not ignoring the religious part in the music but you also have to accept that it is a musical style that you appriciate but others won't like, like you dont like hip hop...but for example to the black youths in america this is as essential like reggae music to others. so back to the fact that the word 2nd reggae king for junior reid will be too heavy for him, but i do still think that he does an amazing job entertaining both roots lovers and modern style lovers..today i do not see one other reggae artist that can do that...sean paul?? never.he doesn't reach the roots lovers...capleton??? there was a time when he recorded with other artists like q tip from a tribe called quest and method man from wu tang clan..but to me now these times are over and do not see him recording with other artists thats why his name is not sooo famous. the same goes for sizzla.
I will mention another name..dennis brown...truly dennis brown is a giant...ok ok he has some terrible stuff...but still if these rumours are really true (sniffing cocaine) i must admit that he nevertheless recorded hot stuff in the later years...

Well, Bob did Three Little Birds which sounds awful to me, both the riddim and the lyrics are so lightweight !
Sun is Shining is also an example of a Bob's song with poor lyrics... Misty Morning too. They may sound good (I like them) but they are not very "conscious". And what about Kinky Reggae ?

I like Kinky Reggae indecipherable lyrics (everybody reckons it means something different) and the London nightlife references. Same with Sun Is Shining.
Great rhymes too. "circus"..."Marcus"
They evoke acertain mood and feel, song lyrics shouldn't be separated from the music.
2 of the best Marley songs IMO.
Also, art and artist shouldn't be confused...unless you wanna be disappointed (especially with Reggae acts)!
Well, that's my approach anyway...each one can do what they feel.

i do not criticize peter for doing lightweight songs...he has some good lightweight reggae songs like for example pick myself up, and i really appriciate songs like till your well runs dry (very bluesy) but i guess the rolling stones label maybe changed his mind doing songs that did not fit to him...for example the mystic man album and wanted dread and alive have some good tunes..but it is not enough for me to rate it as good albums...and yeah bob did some "chill out", "easy listening" tunes but i think they fit very well to him.."three little birds" "waiting in vain" "sun is shining" "mistty morning" all of them fit very well although they show him in a different mood. look at peters "nothing but love" or "rock with me" i for myself feel no vibe at all.
