i don't think scientist would really remember the make of his shirt all those years back, i doubt Jamaicans of that age would really care too much about the brand of their shirt in them days would they?
i think they would be more concerned with the fact that they had a shirt to wear regardless of make.

Oh no, I think they really DID care. Hence the repeated use of "in me clarkes booties" type lyrics.

Of cousre, I understand so many ghetto residents could barely afford any clothing - lyrics: (all I own is) one shirt on my back etc.

But once they made a bit of money, many would spend it on 'threads', getting suited and booted.

These guys were often VERY image conscious, as a quick scan of pics any late 70s early 80s reggae artists would confirm. They all look very cool and smart in their gold chains, Adidas trackies, Clarkes boots, puma trackshoes, etc.

Just look at Dillinger, Eek-a-mouse, Yellowman and of course the Cool Ruler himself, Gregory Isaacs, and tell me they didn't give a damn about 'designer labels' as they have since become known.

maybe your right but the scientist picture looks like he was very young, even when i was a kid at that age only the kids with plenty of money or rich parents would be bothered about designer labels for shirts and jeans etc. and this was in the UK where people wheren't no where near as poor as JA.

But yeh your right, most of the artists u mention u can see wearing gold chains and stuff and JA was huge on Fashion with the 80's dancehall thing.

You should email scientist on his myspace and ask him if he remembers about the shirt! maybe he still has it!lol
