*Civil war almost broke in Jamaica*

And where did the destabilization start from? Within, or by external forces? Look at the history of Chile in the 70's for a clue. What happened in Jamaica is still happening to ANY country that tries to nationalize it's own resources instead of selling them for pennies to corporate interests.

You still haven't said what was inaccurate or hateful in the song. Since you boast about growing with Jim Brown in 13, I am not sure you are able to provide an impartial response. But look at the history of the country from a total point of view, and not just from that of your region. He may have been a lot of things, but Manley wasn't a fool. At least you didn't call Manley the worst possible thing you can call someone today - a liberal :^)

take it easy my friend, you sound like you did grow in 12 with Red Tony ! :D

The hateful part in the song ? Here it is : " my leader born yah."

Now yu may want to hear bout the provocation part : " we have dem under heavy manners".

Production ? Clancy Eccles... What a surprise ! :D

I do not take side in politics (like yu do). Who started the war ? Well, Seaga and crew were ready to go indeed (and certainly were the baddest guys). But when you try to reform a whole country like Manley did, you need to understand the reality of life and of the system. Else you are a pure radical, you scare the s..t out of everyone and a scared man is dangerous. Manley might have been what Peter called an educated fool for all I know - I do respect the man and his ideas but conceptual politics and reality do not always match. Guess Manley himself understood some of his mistakes later on.

But this is an endless discussion and I do not care to convince anyone. Go shake a leg pon Martin, man - no problem with me.

Point taken, that is a provocative line. And the "foreigner" angle was indeed played up to incite mistrust, but it's easy to see why when their was mistrust of "foreigners" at the time, and fear of CIA de-
stabilization.

*Production ? Clancy Eccles... What a surprise !*

Knowing where you stand, I'll assume you don't own many of his records. :^)

For the record, definitely not on either "side". I believe both had a vision of what they thought was best for their country.

Cool runnings.

It sounds to me like "housing".. right?
Survival,

Many thanks, it has got to be "housing" as the pronunciation is just right for JA. That just leaves one word I'm not sure about - "microdot" as in "Juck them with microdot". Wondering whether it may be "micro debt" as in small debt. Any views?

it's Micro Dams. during the PNP reign there were several micro-dams constructed by Cuban aid workers.

these dams provided irrigation for rural areas, thus improving the harvest and income of the farmers.

another one of those terrible, terrible things the PNP and their cuban friends did in Jamaica...

Thanks Jumbo, that must be it. So the full lyrics should be:

"My Father born ya
My Father born ya
My Grandmother born ya
My Grandmother born ya
I and I born ya
I and I born ya
My leader born ya
My leader born ya
Thats why I nah leave ya
No I nah leave ya
He gave I a message
Who are those people
Who no love progress
Who no love progress
Said you juck them with land lease
Said you juck them with land lease
Then you juck them with the Pioneer Corps
Juck them with the Pioneer Corps
Juck them with JAMAL (Jamaica Adult Literacy Programme)
Juck them with JAMAL
Then you juck them with free education
Juck them with free education
Equal pay for women
Equal pay for women
Juck them with the minimum wage
Juck them with the minimum wage
My leader born ya
My leader born ya
So everybody nah leave ya
No I nah leave ya
Me a satta with discipline
Under heavy heavy manners
Me inna the struggle
Me inna the struggle too
No boss talk no they and them
No boss talk no they and them
Everyone nah fool
Everyone nah fool
Juck them with the Cuban Schools
Juck them with the Cuban Schools
Then you juck them with the micro dams
Juck them with the micro dams
Juck them with the basic schools
Juck them with the basic schools
Socialism no fool
Socialism no fool
Juck them with housing
Juck them with housing
Then you juck them with the Impact Programme
Juck them with the Impact Programme
We have them under manners
We have them under manners
Heavy heavy manners
Heavy heavy manners
Oh we have them under manners
We have them under manners
Heavy heavy manners
Heavy heavy manners
I man a satta with discipline
Under heavy heavy manners"
