entails ? guess not or your post would be useless... anyway, no problem. I listen to some jammy's stuff from time to time - even some digital stuff. no big deal

I dont agree, for me his pre digital stuff is really interesting in the sense that it still has a powerfull vibe that miss in the flat early 80s dancehall kingdom, the mixes are ruff and his choice of singers is good too.

this is surely not the first tune to have in reggae music. was it produced by jammy anyway ? or by the palmer bros ? not quite sure...

King Jammy brought on the digital revolution atrtracting other producers to contribute to the digital era, wich is very UNDER RATED!!!those people who think this era isnt good need to dig a little deeper and appreciate some of the best productions ever made...DIGIKAL WE DIGIKAL

ummm ok so by artist i thought you meant musician....like they would refer to them as recording artist. but i guess i misunderstood.


I would like to know from your perspective what producers are great in your book? i dont mean this as an attack, i would really like to know.

As an older person brought up listening to Reggae in the analogue era I have never been able to adapt to the different approach and sound that the digital era bought along.

You either like it or you don`t. I`m afraid I don`t but I just put that down to age and the fact that to me reggae lost its magic in the digital revolution.

But has someone else said, if Jammy hadn`t started it, someone else would have.

So were Glen Brown, Keiht Hudson, Perry(overrated as a genius but underrated as a producer), coxsone of course (no matter what you may say, he had the vision), duke reid etc.

Now King Jammy was a wanabe if yu ask me, from the days of Tubby. pushing and pushing to get a hit (producing whatever might have sold from the X to the Flex). he did produce some good stuff along the way, I like a lot of his digital stuff too. but the sleng teng was a virus that almost killed reggae music. no more reggae rythm, pure steady drum (not to speak bout the sound itself). that helped stupid deejays (all right, they appeared as soon as the late 70's but still) and stupid lyrics.

now, I'm all right with jammy still. listen to his stuff now and then. but I don't fool myself pretending he was a genius and a blessing to jamaican music.

PS : I wish no cuss cuss here, I'm just expressing myself.

My thoughts are that Jammy's brought together many good artists in the pre-digital era, and though i just can't stand most of his digital stuff after the so called 'hit' Sleng Teng (aaaaaargh!....), i still respect him for his earlier works...

of course there's many other producers and engineers i would mention as HIGHLY RATED way before him... but i still enjoy plenty of his early 80's stuff...

by the way, i recently bought the original 12" by Lacksley Castell - What A Great Day on Sufferers Height, and it has a dub on the flip by PRINCE (at that time..)JAMMY called "Slaghterhouse Five", not the dub to castell's Great Day, a different riddim... TUFF KILLER riddim (if anyone knows if there's a vocal to this side, let me know...)... both tracks prod. by Jammy, and both TOP KILLER to my taste....

If he didn't produce or engineered anything besides this 2 chunes, and went straight to digital stuff, i'd still respek him...

... someone perfectly said: "If he didn't do, someone else would have done it.." ...it was just a matter of time...
