@stepping razor
A common assumption is that Manhattan is for the tourists. As a resident of Manhattan I have to deal with this tourist nuisance daily as do several million actual island residents - and we're not all rich - I certainly am not - so get that notion out of your head. What you are saying is to me inverted snobbery.
Yes, I could live in the far reaches of Brooklyn - some of it is quite nice, but I think it is more important to spend time with my family than to be on a subway for three hours a day just to get to and from my job. ?
So I'm supposed to get all of my groceries by spending 1 hour there and 1 hour back by going to some grocery in the friggin' Bronx or Brooklyn? when were you here last? The black and latin communities got some secret food scheme going on that we deluded Manhattanites don't know about?

And I'm living in a standard walk-up apartment with no patio or balcony - or jacuzzi or whatever would go with that kind of set up that you might be thinking about - so go chew on a Scotch Bonnet...

I believe they are called sloes, by the way ;)
Used to be a lot of them in Ireland, not so much anymore, probably...

I grew up in the country so nothing you are saying is unreasonable on its face, but just not applicable to the reality of my current circumstances.

Preach all you want but...

There is good fruit picking in Central Park its like the country in the city. Blackberries and the like.
I was last there in 1986 and its all changed now and the ghettos have been pushed further and further uptown.

peace

hey
many years ago i saw a very fine poster by the vegetarian society, a photo of a huge gorilla eating a banana, it said on the caption, TRY CALLING HIM A WIMP... very funny. As for macho ideas, yes i agree leggo, it shows how rotten our culture is in the UK. Any gay i met has never been a vegetarian , most i meet are carnivorous and contemptuous of vegetarians.
leggo
whats the name and address of your cafe please??

Is there a direct link between reggae and Vegetarianism?

I remember Jacob Miller threatening to cut Horsemouth and Dirty Harry for eating off of his plate of chicken in Rockers.
Countryman catches, cooks up, and joins the stranded couple in eating red snapper and lobster in the "Pass It On" scene.
The cover of "Super Ape" reads "Roast Fish, Roots, Cornbread, Makka."
Barrington Levi encountered a robberman when his mother sent him out to buy some mutton.
According to Jah Thomas, "Curry Goat connected to the white rice/ You have to eat a plate if you want know it nice."
Every Sunday, Early B's favorite wish is to eat "rice and peas, eschovitched fish." He also makes chicken back taste like roast duck.
Clive Field Marshall introduces tourists to the national dish, which is Ackee and Saltfish.

I believe that there are many more substantial reasons for choosing a vegetarian diet, but, since not all reggae is Rasta, to say that there is an inherent connection between reggae music and vegetarianism is fallacious.

Respect,
DB

youre correct donbanyan, theres no inherent connection between all reggae and vegetarianism.even the great prince fari on his moses moses disc, said a kid died
"beca dey ad no meat"..
great song though.there are so many references in reggae to "you bwile de chicken
den me fry de rice"etc... good point don banyan.
