Thanks to the production genius of Phil Spector this girlie quartet were to become one of the `60s most imitated teams, though few could duplicate their mixture of coy girl-next-door harmonising and wild gospelly wailing--all performed over Spector`s massive `wall of sound`. Their hits: "He`s A Rebel" (`62), "Da Doo Ron Ron", and "Then He Kissed Me" (`63)--all million sellers.

Early popular R&B group. Their hits were "Burn That Candle" (1955) and "Why" (1957-- both on Capitol) before leader Jimmy Breedlove left for a solo singing career.

COW COW DAVENPORT:
Chicago - based boogie/blues pianist and singer who recorded prolifically in the `20s and `30s as accompanist and featured artist. Most remembered for "Cow Cow Boogie". Died in obscurity in 1955.

CARL DAVIS:
After producing "Duke Of Earl" for Gene Chandler in 1959 his name appeared on a string of hits for various Chicago artists. Worked for Okeh and now Brunswick/Dakar.
A successful behind-the-scenes man who has helped shape "the Chicago sound".

Detroit-based producer/songwriter whose name appeared on the credits of a welter of material on small Detroit labels. In recent times has developed a close association with the Stax and Chess complexes, most notably with Johnnie Taylor.
