@Congo: As BlackArkRock mentioned *Upsetter Shuffle* does sound like a later Black Ark mix. The original recording which is on the Cloak And Dagger album as *Bad Walking*, might well be a (very early) Black Ark recording, but that's just me assuming. Of course by the end of 1972, not all of the recording equipment was in place or in working order, which might explain the lack of distinctive 'Ark' sound. But again, it's just a presumption.

Re Lee Perry feeding: I never heard of this PS press release. For me it is and has always been Jah Lion second voice in the mix.
Perry most probably recorded more takes on the riddim and decided to use an alternate Jah Lion take and mix it in with a second take.

Lick It Back:

Your efforts and work to present and write about reggae (to me, especially Lee Perry and Bob Marley) is greatly appreciated!!

Just wanted to say so...

Hope nobody minds . Can't think where else to post this.
Thought you might be interested in my Lee Perry autograph. 100% genuine.
I met him in the street and asked him very nicely (full story available on request)
Apparently he doesn't give many - that's what I heard anyway.
:)

@chromium1: I request the full story. Did you meet him in Switzerland?

Not in Switzerland... in the more humble city of Brighton.
Can't remember the exact date - sometimes around 2002/ maybe earlier/ maybe a bit later, can't recall.
Scratch was playing in town that night. I was working in a record shop. We had a poster for the gig in the window.
Well - Scratch walked past the shop in the afternoon... and he stopped to linger in the doorway looking at the poster. No mistaking him - he was dressed in full regalia including many broken cds stitched onto his clothes and hat. Dressed in all black otherwise.

I ran out of the shop in a state of excitement... what could I possibly say to the guy.
Anyway - all I could come up with was "can I have your autograph please?"
He said nothing but seemed to assent.
I ran back into the shop to grab a pen and then back out again.
I gave him the pen and a flyer to sign (should have got him to sign the poster - what a mistake).

Anyway - he trousered the pen.... yup - he put my pen in his pocket.... I thought "oh-oh".
Then he got a big black marker pen out of his bag and signed the yellow flyer you can see above. Nice message.
Then he set off further up the street. As he went off I shouted "you're a genius!".

The funny thing is - he didn't say a dickie-bird at all. Smiled a bit but didn't utter a sound during the whole time.

About 5 minutes later he came back down the street and stopped in the doorway of the shop and gave me a big smile and a wave.... then carried on.

That's my Lee Perry story :)

Hehe nice story. Thanks for sharing. Eccentric geniuses don't have to talk ;-) But nice that he's taking a tour through the city before a gig. I'd do the same I guess.

Anyway... we're getting pretty off-topic here.

thanks for the replies. having listened to the six separate tracks a few more times now, I am now certain that it is all Jah Lloyd and not LSP.

I'm not sure that I read it on PS's website now, maybe it was on another site as a review of the album, or possibly I imagined the whole thing

EDIT: Completely forgot to say, I don't care how dirty the sound quality is on an a LSP production or dub plate, I still want to hear it.

Congo Bunny you're not imagining things, I read it too ;)
it might have been on the PS website or even on the album notes. The comment really intrigued me and I was confused when I first listened to the record, and still am...amazing Jah Lion stuff nonetheless

jah lions tunes i think is from his next lp never released ,

Althea & Donna s tune is a more wikked tune in the late 78 after going to negril not sounds like bird in hand , there is a new blackboard jungle press with bird in hand in another version all instrumental dub

its so nice for a hardcore black ark fans that pressure sounds comes with this new album "lost black ark"

think there is a lot lost treasure somewhere , dennis brown junior murvin jah lion george faith,
think all dem did 78 albums maybe not comeplited

like full experience singer candy mckenzie s album released last year

bless
