It would have to depend on what era ou are talking about for me.
Basically the ROOTS RADICS from 1980 onwards. From the 70's probably the Revolutionaries and, I can't believe nobody has mentioned them, SOUL SYNDACITE. These guys are wicked. Then of course there are the Soul Defenders and Tommy McCooks Supersonics. But the Roots Radics is the only band that I can single out from any particular era. Always liked their work better than Sly & Robbie. Especially with Scientist at the Controls and Junjo producing. They made some of the most enduring versions of Dancehall staples. Right up there with the Studio 1 & Treasre Isle Originals. Now if it was the most influental band I'd definately say the Soul Defenders or whatever appelation Coxsone gave to the Studio 1 bands with Jckie Mittto & Leroy Sibbles because they CREATED THE STAPLE RIDDIMS.

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul?

Re: Most favourite backing band
Unfortinately some of these guys were "used<2 and regardless of talent remained a backing band. Strange since they were future thinkers and some - 1 or 2 appered in the UK Alpha boys band.mercy Mercy

ROOTS RADICS===> best band of all time.
I love High times too. To answer, this group was created by chinna. This band was an alternative in 80's. Because the radics have mashed up totally in 80-82. After that producer needs another band to record some riddims because the radics were busy evrytime. So junjo (and others) needs high times band.
High times band include many players, so the group was like this or like that... it depends.
Drum: Santa/Benbow/Sly
Bass: Larry Silvera/christopher meredith/Robbie
guitar: Chinna/Bo Peep/Willie Lindo/Fazal Pendergast/Ranchie
piano: Tony Asher/Robert Lynn/Keith Sterling/Ansel collins/Wire Lindo/Winston wright/Tarzan
percussions: sky juice/Da silva
Horns: deadly headly/ Nambo/ Dean
...
and many more.
