White people's hair, to me, looks bad in dreads. Black men and women dreading their hair is far more natural and just looks as such. To me rasta has always been some black people's way of celebrating things that are exclusively black one of those things being their hair. I'm irish and its not like I'd smack a dread with a shilelagh for walking around with a kilt on but he would look just as silly as me wearing dreads.

As far as I'm aware, anyone's hair will dread up eventually if you don't comb/brush it - but black people's hair, on account of the texture, tends to knot up faster...
I think that ancient Celts used to have dreads too. Though I might be remembering that wrong.
Silly to me is some white guy paying £400+ in a salon for fashion dreads, to show people that you identify with the sufferers of the ghetto and are down with the blacks, or whatever.

yes I've been told that as well about the celts. From a white kid I knew back in the day who actually had really nice dreads ironically. This was when I was a teenager however so make of that what you will.
Ya know in my circle of friends I am the reggae guy. And by reggae guy I mean its very close to the only style of music I'll buy/listen to. And its of course the roots early dancehall stuff. Heavy dub too. My friends always say i should visit Jamaica as I may even be part jamaican..lol! I never put on any accents, never dreaded my hair, wear hemp panchos, nor subscribe to any faith. I do abstain from using any animal products (with the exception fish)which listening to reggae/rasta has surely influenced. I won't even wear Clarks anymore cuz they use leather! I'm not trying to jump on the rasta bandwagon at all but to me the *almost vegan choice makes me more rasta than any color guy with dreads....and like I said I'm not trying to catch rasta envy anyway. It really is just a hair style which in my opinion looks better for blacks although some whites can pull it off too.......but not many,
good discusion here as always my friend

So its not like you would hit a dread with an implement for wearing a kilt?
Glad to hear it.Such a ridiculous thing to mention.

The idea is that 99.9% of the time its non black people adopting black "looks" but never the other way around. A black man wearing a kilt and talking like sean connery while at a U2 or black 47 concert would be downright odd. For some reason when white people "become black" its less odd or not odd at all. To me it is, albeit its not like I'd hit anyone with a shilelagh.(I don't even own one)Yes!, I was adding a ridiculous comment to a ridiculous issue. You're agreeing with me actually.
LOL!

To me looking like a rasta is secondary and in fact not important, just a question of style. The important thing is the philosophy and ethical stance taken by rasta:that is Non-violence, non-political, often vegetarian and self-sufficient in food (Ital eating), and not taking part in the Babylon system.

Locs have been around as far back as ancient KMT and have been in almost every ancient culture. It is one of the oldest known ways that hair has been worn. Locs were not only Africa but also in India, China, and even Ireland.
There is only one type of person in this world and it is the African man. The original man was African. 'White' people are a product of the Ice Age and the lack of sun for thousands of years:
