619 does have a good reggae scene, not to mention im from there ;) But seriously... Today Eek a Mouse played a free concert at San Diego State. Plus I'll never forget the Trade Roots 25th Aniversary show. Martin Campbell, Cornell Campbell, and Horace Andy, all backed by almost the whole Soul Syndicate band.

San Diego has the best roots scene in Southern California. I'm still kicking myself for missing The Trade Roots 20th aniversary show... What a classic line up And my girlfriend would have got me in for free... booo I missed it. Anyway The Belly Up in San Diego has really good roots shows.
Los Angeles, is my 2nd favorite place for roots shows The Dub Club in Echo Park gets most of the best roots artist to perform. I saw Big Youth and The Twinkle Brothers there not to long ago.

For many years, San Diego county had a great indy record store called Lou's Records in Encinitas. They speacialized in all music styles, and the reggae buyer got most of their product directly from Ernie B. They had the best selection around and I used to shop there often until the Internet became the easist way to find and buy music. Lou's is still around, but I haven't been there in at least 5 years as I live further away. But I do miss the excitement of discovering a new reissue on the shelf and lingering around the store deciding on how much to spend. :)

Ahhhh yes...Lou's records was good when Dave use to work there. I use to go there 2 to 3 times a week and spend hours there and he would special order records for me, give posters and let me know when they put out records in Used section. I found some really rare stuff there for cheap price. Now, I dont even go there anymore since they don't restock reggae section like they use too.
