Re: How do you catalogue your reagge vinyl? By artist? By label? By producer? By genre?

The alphabet has come into existence for a reason, it is in fact the system you use to ask your questions of organizing. You have organized your thoughts according to the alphabet and subsequently the words and sentences produced by this alphabet.
Simplicity rules, follow this law. Alphabetical is your best bet as you said, by first name of artist since we pretty much know artists by their full name BOB marley, JOHNNY clarke, etc. etc. You can always find something by alphabet eventually and without taking up too much time especially since your choices will be very limited when you have two artists on a 12" for example. You have two letters to choose from. You can always forget what rhythm something is on but it's less likely that you will forget where in the alphabet a certain name falls under.
The rest of it is just idiosyncratic ego made to make someone or something feel more special about their organizing system I think. If you know what labels something is on then you know what somethings label is so it takes care of it's self. You may know what label something is on and can't remember the title or artist, this is a fair towards organizing by Label but with any system there will be some case or point against it. Just think how often one situation happens over the other, Realistically. And go from there.
