I forgot that Carlton Patterson & King Tubby CD was on Hot Pot - maybe that means they are still on the go. Hope so, because the first Glen Brown comp, 'Leggo Dub' and 'Black And White In Dub' are very fine!

6anbatte, please forgive me for being a bit dense, but I don't understand how Auralux having their releases leaked ahead of them coming out could be a bad thing. I would have thought that it would help build up a bit of demand, and surely if they are on a tight budget, that sort of buzz would help?

Todays two-LPs-on-one-CD reissue of my dreams:

Techniques All Stars '.357 Magnum Dub' + 'Concrete Dub'

Two mid to late 70's LPs produced by Winston Riley of Techniques fame, both on my want list for a bit now. I just discovered today that 'Concrete Dub' sells for an absolutely astronomical amount, which bum's me out a little, but not too much. Still hoping for that lucky break!

never heard "Concrete dub", but also look out for "Meditation dub". There are 2 volumes, also on techniques label.

I must admit I have never managed to get to the bottom of this, but I think it's to do with the complexities of the licensing agreements and the short lead time from when the agreement is signed to the album being released. I think they are worried that someone else will try and step in and try and *hijack* the deal if it's found out what they are working on. Something like that would obviously knock things off, what is a very tight, schedule.
All I can say is that whenever I have been given the heads-up on what's going to be released I have been told, and I quote, "We don't have dates for release as yet - so please keep under your hat."

Incidentally, I emailed my contact yesterday to get more info about that and received the following ominous "bounce-back" message - "Delivery to the following recipients failed."

Incidentally regarding lead times with, for example, "African Anthem" when Mikey turned up with 1/4 tape the schedule was so tight that they didn't even have time to do their own transfer and clean it up.

That's mad. I wonder whether they got the 'World at War' tape direct from Scientist/Jimmy Riley, as well? They must have a really good network of contacts.

I must admit I really laughed when I heard that. He literally did deliver the tape by hand. :)

Heh. Must have been a bit of a shock for the Auralux folks. :)

Todays pipe dream reissues are all partly motivated by the artwork on these albums - they all have cool, weird, funny artwork. So it would have to be a vinyl repress for these bad boys, just so you could admire them at the size they were meant to be. Tho' a remastered CD with bonus tracks would be a bonus too!

Prince Hammer 'World War Dub Part 1'
A great cartoon cover of some guy (Prince Hammer?) flying a single seat WW1 Biggles type fighter, this has never been reprinted as far as I know. Recorded at Channel One, mixed at King Tubbys by Prince jammy and Scientist - sounds like it'll be great!

Ossie Hibbert & The Revolutionaries 'Satisfaction In Dub'
A grainy looking cover that could just as easily grace a blaxploitation LP, this guy looks pretty satisfied. Would be a good fit in with those Ossie Hibbert dub albums on Hot Pot.

Phil Pratt 'Star Wars Dub'
Jings! The cover for this makes me think of having the brightness on a TV up too high - it's kind of hard not to notice.

Revolutionaries 'Revolutionary Dub'
Not the one listed on Roots Archive, but this one here:
http://members.shaw.ca/dublp3/revolutionary.html
What the hell is going on with that cover?! Is that eagle/monkey headed humanoid thing going to kill that other...thing...with a knife?

Of course, I have heard none of these, so if you have, share your opinions! Or post up the albums you'd most like to see reissued. Or both.

@Pots and Pans
too much to read here - really! you got a really good response to this idea and I think I agree with you most of the way.
The forward looking openness to the way music is actually selling (rather than the way corporations or even reissue labels want to sell it) is refreshing.
I'm all for lossless or 320kbps mp3 or whatever - no DRM, spread the word, get people addicted- push it (check my entry on the B&F question, maybe rambling but on the same page as they say here in the benighted US). The music is so great but if it is a precious rare thing, who benefits?
This music is never going away - it has been proven already - it just doesn't seem to grow at a rate that can sustain the people that make it or love it. Why is that?
There is a formidable disconnect (another US cliche sorry) between the recorded and live aspects of the music. If you could get a reissue out and a sound system tour directly associated with the record - that would probably have an effect. I think B&F tried it with some success but probably with too much love and not hard enough - don't know just guessing.

Please read through your responses on this and do a new post on something more specific (if yer serious) - try to narrow it down to a projection of what you want to achieve. I think you did that already - but let's say it's Pots and Pans label. What will you do and what do you want.

I am basically a label (musician, producer etc.) but just to release my own stuff. I'm interested in your ideas. I make shag all $ but that is mainly because I'm unable to promote the stuff, i do all the music myself and these days I do almost nothing live. How do you sell something nobody knows about? By accident on iTunes or other electronic download services.

The fear expressed by one or two on this forum and elsewhere about 'the way we listen to music today' is baffling.

here is where I last did something live:

Keep on sculpting your thoughts on this. Would love to be a part of figuring something out.

Hullo to everyone on the board!

I want to widen the scope of this thread, so that maybe more folk post their longed for reissues! I have been guilty of posting up lots of dub LPs I would like to see reissued, but that is just my own preference.

So don't think of this as a dream dub reissue thread - ANYTHING you would like to see reissued, post it up here! With or without a wee description, it's up to you.

Sure, it's wish fulfillment and a bit of a lark, but it is also a good way to share knowledge and to give some attention to underappreciated records, songs or singers, and that, I think, benefits everyone.

And it doesn't have to be an album. After an amazing 7" that has been out of print forever? Love an artist who only released a handful of songs that would make an awesome 4 track 10"? Chasing a couple of albums that would fit snugly on 1 CD? Well, it's all imaginary anyway, so go nuts!

And now, to revert to type and completely ignore my own advice, my fantasy reissue for the day is:[cover=5418,4210]**The Revolutionaries 'Dial M For Murder In Dub Style'**
After asking about this Phil Pratt produced obscurity from 1980 on this very board, I learned that it
A)is well liked by those who have heard it,
B)has a brutal dub to 'Disaster' by Junior Brown
C)was mixed at Channel One BUT isn't full of the same old rhythms.
Further snooping through old threads reveals that Sly Dunbar and Tommy McCook are playing 'amazing' drums and sax. So all round, it sounds like an absolute corker! And it has some gloriously cheap and tacky looking artwork too!
