I'm familiar with the tales of J. Byles unfortunate problems - but he did a few tracks on Jah-Man label which sound post-1975 to my ears. So couldn't he in theory have done a bit more recording at the Ark - like on a 'good' day?

re 'That Black Ark' sound. In my opinion there are maybe three different Black Ark sounds! (which overlap to some degree)
When LP first opened the Ark (Susan Cadogan, Silvertones), the mid to late period (Congos, J. Murvin, Heptones) and what you might call the end of days period where it is pretty obvious that equipment is not being maintained, and LP is no longer fully in control of either his production duties or his faculties. Im thinking of that album by the Congolese guys. Some people like it but I find it unlistenable...

TALKING HEADS would have been cool.
They wanted to record with Perry at one point but he refused because he thought they were with ISLAND RECORDS,
More MAX ROMEO and JR MURVIN too.

Prince Far I - would be heavier than lead

Bim Sherman - would make for a real special vibe

Junior Byles' [Girl Next Door](http://www.smokeyroom.net/samples/girlnextdoor.ram) was done in the Black Ark.

Haven't heard that track before - wow, bass, drums and toy keyboard. Sounds like the Ark just opened for business!

Nice track though...

Junior Byles was first one who voiced the riddim and it was in the year 1972/73.

junior byles is a good voice for certain

acetone- i agree, some of me likes that album with the congolese, but some of me dislikes it due to the weird sound quality. not hissy or anything. just not so full. but if it was a better quality mix i think i'd listen to it more.

Prince Far I, Burning Spear and Black Uhuru would have all been killer at the Black Ark.

Now we're talking!
Prince Far I would indeed be a killer to my ears.

I also think ["River of Mystery"](http://www.smokeyroom.net/samples/river.ram) by Zap Pow is so doggone perfect, they should have made more songs that very same day it was recorded. It would have been the perfect intrumental album ever.
