To be fair, though, I don't think Dave K was really promoting the Dead, so much as just using them as a general analogy.

Yes, not only am I not a Deadhead, I have never seen them live. I wrongly thought that it would be an analogy understood by many here, even without themselves having first-hand experience.

if so, sorry to jump on that so hard; its just that here in california so many "reggae lovers" never heard of the genre 5 years ago when they were deadheads (or if they did it was strictly the marley/harder they come (not that marley or harder they come are bad things (can i squeeze in one more parenthetical phrase here?)) style of reggae) and now they use the gd for all sorts of wacked out analogies. and i just have near-allergic reactions to that logic.

I understand the hype-man for performances, especially sound systems which might (I assume, at least) lack the stage presence of good, live musicians. If I were there, I probably would appreciate the energy it added.
I also don't mind a well-timed lickshot on a record, but all of the Joe Lickshot interjections to which I've been subjected, have actually KILLED the flow of an otherwise KILLER vocal delivery.
In my own opinion, of course.

new york party: yes indeed that is one track that joe lickshot is on and in fact the whole LP that track appears on has him doing overdubs, nearly every song. i think they would be ok in moderation but its way overboard here. add to that they are like i mentioned flatulence like rather than gunshot like. jackie knockshot, going by the sugar minott song war and crime, is much better sounding and puts the effects in proper places (maybe that was down to sugar minott?).
as for that other comment, i am well aware of the jamaican dancehall scene and have been to a number of them in person over the years.
but when someone brings up the grateful dead, though, you immediately lose me as an audience member. and its not that i dont "get it". its that ive been bored with those yokels since about 1973, and living in their neighborhood hasnt helped that at all. i mean literally living in their neighborhood...i lived in stinson beach when garcia was there and had to put up with all these crusties hanging around everywhere stealing whatever they could and panhandling anyone who looked like an easy touch. i respect them on some (technical mostly) levels but other than that i think the world would be a better place if they had just packed it in 20 years ago. i remember in 1968 they had something to offer but by 73 or so it was all over if you ask me (and of course you didnt but you did bring them up in a thread i started).

I dont know the matrix of the Heartbeat pressing so I dont know if it is the same.

I dont know the matrix of the Heartbeat pressing so I dont know if it is the same.

If you look pn the grooves around the label, you'll see a matrix number. If it starts with "DSR", you have a disc mastered at Dynamics. If it is mastered in the U.S., it will have a alpha code that sugggests either "Rounder" or "Heartbeat".
What is the code on the Dynamics pressing that you are referring to? You don't have to have the Heartbeat pressing tp know this.
Heartbeat are generally pretty good at their masterings, so I am curious to see how much "better" this one is.
