I think there's a reason for that... ;)

politics has its hand in many of these murders. i just re read the josey wales interview from riddim magazine issue 1 2006, and he himself states that he supported labour, supported claudie massop.
on his affiliation he says
''it was that whole era, man. if you been there you been shot at too, or you had to shoot somebody. its not even good to put our minds there. because i might come up with some corrupted words an' some offensive words''.
not to mention the fact that he himself was shot three times taking 6 bullets in all. a dangerous time in the history of jamaica, with different sounds supporting different factions it was only natural that some artists would meet a bloody end. and some murders were surely passed off as political when they were no more than grudge killings or robberies.
anyone know what prince fari's political leanings were if any??

People talk about affiliations now, but they didn't years ago for fears of reprisal. At the time of Far-I's murder, it was generally believed to be a targeted robbery. Accusing Josey Wales? Wow, that's new.....incredible claims require incredible evidence.

Many musicans are apolitical, but assumptions get made because they live in certain regions that are known as "this side" or "that side". It's really a question best to be asked to Far-I, but of course he can't answer. And if he were here, it's quite possible that he would likely answer the same way many of us would - that it's a private matter!

hi davek.
well that was the first time i ever heard josey wales being mentioned in the prince far i murder, or any murder for that matter. if you read my post again nowhere does it mention that josey wales killed anyone. i wasn't accusing anyone of anything. it was mentioned in a different post above.
but i thought i'd add the piece from the josey wales interview (seeing as he was mentioned above) out of interest. the interviewer touches on a lot of questions from that time, and inevitably the shootings are mentioned a lot.
and politics.
respects

Hi Ital Kemar

I know you didn't say it. Lke you, I was just responding to it as an outrageous comment. My response was more about your question of Far-I's affiliation, in that one can't assume that EVERYONE had political allegences. Some people see both sides as dead-ends that lead to nowhere, and that there is little difference between the differing ideologies....."meet the new boss, same as the old boss" kind of thing.

Someone posting such unsubstantiated claims anonymously under the name "skylarker" probably shouldn't be taken too seriously!

I heard that Prince Far I was shot over a dance that failed.
The wife of the promoter was at fault for the failure of the dance
and this caused a problem between Far I and the promoter.
So if you know who the other promoter was you will know who was involved
in Far I's death.
Who the actual shooter was might never be revealed.
An outlaw no doubt.
(The political graffiti story above may only be a side issue )
I won't say who was mentioned in this story because rumour is just that, rumour.

there has to be more info on him.
someone MUST make book on the life of this man
going into detail of every song
album art work and the imagery and meaning behind
some of the art.
adrian sherwood must know alot of info about this
man.
I really agree with you. Prince Far I is a unique artist admired by reggae, dub, electro, experimental and punk fans amongst other. Why is it so difficult to find info on such a great artist???

He deserves a book on his life and his art. Maybee he is too much underground for that.

(btw, you can find nice Far I t-shirts on Pressure sounds)
