Maybe in the UK, but go to Jamaica and say "She a champion bubbler" and NO ONE will think of a female dancehall deejay with nice microphone-skills.

I can only tell you how it was at the time, as I was there. But I do apprecaite that history gets re-written all of the time, these days all classic tunes seem to be called "Studio Ones" regardless of where they were recorded!

It doesn't really sound like you appreciate history getting re-written unless it was a sarcastic statement ... which would be entirely unnecessary since I don't think anyone is trying to re-write history in this thread.

I think some stuff is being lost in translation here: "appreciating" in that sense means "aknowledging" or "accepting", it doesn't mean "to like", nor is it a sarcastic statement.

That song lyric above doesn't support the comment about MCs being called "Champion Bubbler", which is what was said earlier in the thread.

Things can mean today different things than they did in the past, revisionism is inevitable. But if you check songs from the era, like Tristan Palma's "What A Bubbling", or Pad Anthony's "Champion Bubbler", it's quite clear what it means. Even Aswad's 45 "Bubbling"....when they sing "I man feel like dancing, don't you want to bubble with me?", they aren't offering someone a microphone!

Bubbling is indeed a Jamaican dance. A 'champion bubbler' is simply someone who's a 'champion' in dancing. And so 'bubbling' refers to simply dancing.

Sorry for the misunderstanding regarding reading your comment as sarcastic.

Just to clarify though ... I never meant or said that bubbler doesn't mean a dancer but rather that I've also heard it being used for deejays. The lyrics excerpt from my previous post was to show at least one track with the usage of bubbler as a deejay (I know there are several more ... but I'm too tired to sit down and start going through records to find them).

How about "Bubbling on the Top 100, just like a mighty dread"?

What about 'Skiddly biddly wah'?

"Wah" is the type of music to do MC Skiddly's Biddly dance to...

bubbling means dancing (waist-line in a circular fashion)
or
most things moving in a good way(as in bubblin on the Top 100(music chart)means a hot tune moving up the charts
