Perhaps the most well known example of this is Bob Marley's refusal to write a will despite suffering from the final stages of an advanced metastasized cancer (and the resulting controversy surrounding the distribution of his estate after his death) on the grounds that writing a will would mean he was giving in to death and forgoing his chance at everliving life.

I don't have enough time today for a longer answer because indeed the subject is very complex and wide but just one thing. The name Jesus Christ, as far as I know, is clearly rejected by some rastas who identify it to the babylon evilous use of the true Bible, a white man's God, while the true Christ is Yeshua, the true BLack man. In Ethiopia, jamaican rastas I met used to laugh about that representation of God orthodox Ethiopians have... Which is quite contradictory as Selassie I himself was the one who built the first church in Ethiopia based on the typical occidental architecture and paintings, with a white Christ (Selassie Church in 4th kilo, Addis Ababa)...
Christ is more than a philosopher , it is the highest spirit, that has true power over earth and heavens, and most people identify to it as they want, and that's not a bad thing in the end.
Whether they reject the title of Jesus Christ or not, whether they despise the suffering lamb (opposed to the roaring lion), rastas are strongly influenced by christian vision and theology, the first reason being Selassie I was a fervent orthodox christian, and supposedly the second coming of G-d on earth.
Jah bless

Matty!
One Love, my friend! Well I am a rastaman and I am enbedded in the rasta culture.
As a rastaman I was ledt to Jesus Christ through Haile Selassie, the news of him spread by Bob Marley.
For me, Haile Selassie was a Christian Martyr. Haile Selassie was Emperor of Ethiopia and a devout Christian man. When the communists rose up against him, he let their rebellion be bloodless! he said he had had enough of bloodshed. His Noblemen had told him he could win over the communists with use of force, but his heart could not stand the bloodshed. He was placed under house arrest and later, it is beieved, was suffocated in his sleep with a pillow, deemed tooo dangerous by the communists to be kept alive. Notice, following the end of his reign, a huge un-precedented famine in Ethiopia and a man called Bob Marley who took over the world for a time with his music. Bob Marley is now perhaps the most famous of men in the world, remembered by the poor and the humble!
Some rastamen today believe that Haile Selassie is the returned Messiah, but Haile Selassie asked them not to think this. He said on the subject:
"...in 1967 Selassie said, "I have heard of that idea. I also met certain Rastafarians. I told them clearly that I am a man, that I am mortal and that they should never make a mistake in assuming or pretending that a human being is emanated from a deity."
I love Haile Selassie for all his words and I say he was a very special man to The Lord, but he is not The returned Yeshua (Jesus). As a rastaman I am first and foremost a Christian and humble follower and disciple of Yeshua The Christ, in a rub a dub style. I have read the whole Bible, Old and New Covenent! It is sacred and blessed.
Come and see me and my friends on myspace in the blessed music and you will see our understanding in action:

From the few lines I have read from your site I think Rastas think that Jesus Christ used and smoked cannabis which I feel is disguesting and wrongfully quoted. There is no way that a man can be replaced with God. Selessie I, can not be equated to God. The Bible says curse is the man who puts his trust in man.

Apparently everyone in the world should convert to your religion.

G-D is man and man is G-D.. This Roman god you call "JESUS CHRIST" is a bastardized name given to YESHUA BIN YOSEF.. His title, HA'MASHEAHK (The Annointed One)is correct in its identification of an AFRO-AZIATIK man who spoke ARAMAIC (Present day CHALDEAN linguistic family) and lived in the Tropics... The whole CHRIST complex was stolen from KHMT (what most people call Egypt/Mizraim) and ROMANized into Caesar Bogare (MichaelAngelo's Uncle).. And you are incorrect when you call H.I.M. "Selassie I"..His full title is QEDAMAWI HAYLE SELLASSIE I ANDENYA..which is a title given unto Ras Teferi at HIS coronation.. Thus fullfilling the BOOK of ISAIAH chapter 9.. "Where the government shall be upon HIS shoulders..".. The Queen James LIE-ble is incorrect in its identification of a Roman Church..Please read more info about your Roman god before posting...Maybe you should read the Book of Ben Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) for more info on Cannabis use among the disciples and the ESSENE community..

Holy Moly is all I can think of to say at this point...but give me a minute to catch my breath and collect my thoughts...
I'm not a Rasta and as I have stated elsewhere I am an atheist and quite content with this faith encumbrance free life.
What profit it man or a woman to win a point of dogma when he/she could have been doing good in the time it took them to argue and fret over doctrinal details?
If people choose to believe in a deity of some sort I'm socially obliged to acquiesce and accept but not necessarily agree with their positions. Where theological debate becomes meaningful and valuable to humanity is when people discuss philosophical issues - in which case most religions/belief systems share a huge amount of common intellectual material that can be harnessed to do good. This ism and schism is ridiculous.
I was brought up with a whole heap of Jesus and while I quickly realised that organised religion was just so much crap, the philosophical/moral aspect of some of it stuck with me. I'm familiar with other religious beliefs besides Christian and have read some philosophy though at this stage it seems to me that most truths are self evident - it doesn't take a text to teach an intelligent human that certain things are good and other things are bad.
There is a theory going about that religious belief, faith or lack thereof may be connected to a genetic predisposition to these apparently diametrically opposed states. Whether true or not it does seem clear to me that some people have a need and a will to believe and others don't. I don't.
This does not stop me being moral, reflective, capable of philosophical discourse.
As to the narcotic thing - people of all cultures have their liberating 'poison'. Why is it such a big frigging deal?
We are born and then we die. What we do in between is up to us as individuals, the friendships we make, the families we're part of and continue. it is up to us to make the best of it as a continuum all the while doing our best to enjoy it and make it better for ourselves and others - what else is there?
Eternal life (at the right hand of the father? Sounds kind of grim to me...

Jesus is a figment of Gods imagination.
The Holy day is a Saturday not a Sunday.
Rasta is a way of life and has transcribed the old testiment.
