I don't know too much about the Roots lead guitar. Inna this time we should pay respects to Lynn Tait for his melodic lines and Ernest Rangling for his chromatic tones.
The rock influence was inevitable, ever since Marley entered the mainstream in the mid 70s. From this aspect, I havo to talk about Moony, Steel Pulse's fomer lead guitarist. His use of distortion solos almost reminds of Al Anderson and Junior Marvin, just with a heavier feel.
