Sorry you can't make the party - we would love to come to France though - we offer a complete evening of Reggae, Rock Steady and Ska - with the option of a live dub band The MightyZ All Stars.
We will travel to play at your local venue, all we need is enough cash to cover expenses (plus a little pocket money for us hopefully).

In fact - not just France - we will play anywhere if you can pay us enough to cover our expenses!

Ton1: what a trio!

The Rulers "Let My People Go" is one of the deepest and dreadest things to ever emerge from anywhere

as for recommended cd's: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rocksteady-You- ... A6OZVS9ZV/

can't say i share the love for "Safe Travel", absolutely pales next to "Red Bumb Ball"

I usually feel very humble reading post on this forum...

BUT HOW COME NO ONE MENTIONED:

1) hopeton lewis : take it easy (LP)one of the first, the essence of rocksteady...

2)roy shirley : an amazing voice, he was at his best during the rocksteady era, the problem is that you have to collect tunes one by one from compilations or hard to find vinyls (no compilation or reissue that diserves to be mentioned here). check the aquarius documentary about reggae in the uk and you'll see him in a brilliant rocksteady performance

3)va - catch this beat (simply the best rockstaedy compilation, a must have! want it? send me a message)
http://www.roots-archives.com/release/5010

3) the soul brothers rocksteady tunes (studio one), including "free soul" stolen by lilly allen on "smile". check youtube and you'll understand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Csm6l6ww6U

4) great great track: BYRON LEE "rocksteady" on 300% dynamite

Indeed, i was more mentioning some beautiful and melancholic rocksteady songs than mentioning classics like "Take it easy" for instance.

As some title i mentioned earlier are quite rare, i plan to burn a "home made" CD soon with some of these titles (as soon as I have selected about 70 minutes to fill a CD) maybe with a home made booklet of what i know concerning those tunes. I'll tell you when it's done.

Yes Oras, Catch This Beat is one of the best compilation i know. Btw, i have two copy of it, if someone living near Paris or coming to Paris soon is willing to trade it, feel free to PM me. I'm looking for ska, rocksteady, roots and dub LPs from early 60s to early 80s (roots-archives covering years indeed, a part from digital). Note that i do not want to sell it or send it via mail.
