Well, hopefully only a joke. Despite this dark and criminal minded period is one of the worst reasons for joking.

We're lucky to live in a time when a world war can be considered history, and the details are a matter of research. I'm pretty sure that since the end of WWII (or certainly by the early 1950s) it's only the third stanza of the hymn that's officially considered the national anthem. That stanza starts with "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" (Unity and Justice and Freedom) instead of "Deutschland über alles" which starts the first stanza. Although the lyrics were composed in 1841 and had nothing to do with fascism, the first stanza was "edited out" because the lyrics seemed insensitive.Lost Shoe wrote:Deutschland über alles!

This has nothing to do with World War II and the Nazis.
These words are still part of Germany's national hymn.
