Thanks massive.
As I read through Im thankfull for the new artist that some of you are recommending. I will definetly check them out. But Im abit concerned about some of you, your are confusing "ROOTS" music with (dancehall and Ragga). Becareful because there is a big difference between these classes of music. And please also dont just think that Bob Marley was the true roots. Brethrens mind you roots music is deeper than most of people think.
Blessed!

To John Public:
1- Signing Off from UB40 will definetly change you mind as said Dave, this is very good reggae music.
2-Jimmy Cliff is not a Rastafarian, he's muslim.

Yeah Signing Off is a good album, I think it's their best. The things they did after that I would say it is much more based on commericial pop reggae just like jimmy cliff does.
That does not mean that I don't like them. But I doesn't hit me so hard like other stuff that I usually hear.

Listen to Ten Foot Ganja Plant, and John Brown's Body...which has some of the same members. Highly respectable music. I preffer the album Midnight Landing by 10foot, also Hillside Airstrip. Check it out.
Peace

I really don't know what's with the last message before mine, but it's ok, because I've got the chance to see this topic. So...
The Jamaican music didn't have an evolution, since the mid 80s, it sims to me. I mean, where is the IMPROVISATION of Jackie Mittoo? Where is the SINCERE message of ...almost everybody? Where is the NATURAL voice of Horace Andy? Where is the WARM feeling of rocksteady? Where is the EXPERIMENTS of dub, that causes the way modern electronic music is made from it's begginings?
Modern Jamaican music shows me the way of the decadent Jamaican society! There's no evolution, for sure! The same riddims, some of them 20 years old, no experiments, no real instruments, no improvisation, no COMPOSITION! The new artist are more concerned of getting more money and stuff, than to develop some new forms of (good or better) jamaican music. As the jamaican society, it became more and more influenced by the american consumption culture, and to lose its national (traditional) elements. (yes, I know that jamaican music was allways influenced by the black american music, but in the way of "let's have our own!". This was actually my point)
PS - I agree that some artists like Jah Mason, Sizzla, Capleton have some nice "roots" songs, but this songs will never "touch" my soul, because I'm not howling to my girlfriend that I love her, and when I pray I'm not doing in loudly, or with distorted voice.

About Sizzla or capleton i don't feel the reggae in their music.

I think there's a misunderstanding here
Sizzla, Capleton, Warrior King, Anthony B, etc are what is called Conscious Modern Reggae, They are Roots and Dancehall telling JAH message
Ub40 early work is OK, and so are their latest albums. Midnite is kind of boring after a couple of songs, Groundation is OK too
Big up to the classic Roots Reggae Massive, even though I also listen to the newest style, mi caan forget mi roots
JAH Bless
