and the above is what most reggae is seemingly becoming, i cant listen to capleton due to the incessant roaring of the lyrics, its not for me

At the time i felt he was chatting about Smiley..but Smiley i thought , was excellent.
Levi had an ongoing feud with Leslie Lyrics,documented on the live at DSYC LP'S part 2 and 3.
He was also involved in the biggest MC clash of the time with Daddy Willy of Young Lion,this was in 84 held in High Wycombe.Anyone that was there would never forget Willie gave Levi a good run for his money.

Spot on Donstrumental Levi slags off Leslie lyrics mercilessly for several minutes in Saxon -v- Ghettotone which was a clash at Lewisham Boys Club around 84/85.
There was a great bit at the end of the session where a crowd vote was taken between Phillip Levi & Leslie Lyrics. Levi won and was presented with the trophy and £100 cash by the promoter/producer.

Yes
The days of Daddy Sandy, Daddy Rusty, papa levi et al were superb.Great reggae, not many carry on that 80s style now in uk.

hi people,
i am very glad that people who had the occasion to really feel that time can share their memories.as a sound systeme lover i have some tape and does anyone remember a clash between jamdown rockers and king tubby in 1982 where tippa who hold the mic for king tubby got completly mashed up by champion. and ifanyone know about jamdown rockers any information welcome.
