Different points of view, different ideas about the song. Everone´s got his own interpretation.
Whatever you suppose.....show some respect pls.
Gregory deserves it.

As a high school literature teacher trained in literary analysis I would like to weigh in on the analysis of this beautiful piece of poetry (lyrical). The song can be looked at as a song about coke. But when you realize that coke doesn't come to mind unless someone has mentioned it and the line "this heart is broken in two" tips the scale of meaning in favor of love and sex, not drug addiction. Gregory is probably figuratively comparing sex with a woman to cocaine addiction. This is common, we often would compare a fun activity or delicious food to coke or crack, that doesn't mean we actually do it in the literal sense. His drug addiction in real life may just be a coincidence. Also the lines "tell her try her best to make it quick" is not in favor of drug use because drug effects are often too short or quick in effect to addicts. A short or quick high is a negative in the drug world. But in the sex world a "quickie" is saught after by those addicted to sex. Just my two cents.

Not that I think it's anything else than a love song but I would interpret »*tell her try her best to make it quick*« is meant as for her to reach him quick with her night nurse »delight«.

really.. why oh why do eediot people think that this song is about anyting else but a longing for sex?
Gregory is feeling loneley and he wants his girl to come around quick to quench his thirst..
A woman who he needs around the clock and who is his only remedy against his love sickness (sexual desire) which no doctor can cure ( but a good f*ck will, so he calls for his girl to come over at night and 'help' him out)
