a lot of good work is lost courtesy of lee perry when he burn down this legendary black ark studio record. The sound was perfect and no words about it. An example of this studio sound is the albums "heart of the congos" from the congos, "police and thieves" of junior murvin, or "war inna babylon" from max romeo.

judy and bolivar had a couple of 'man a....' tunes out, both with a similar sound but the label lists some utha studio. it does sound a bit arky, like the keyboard, but not all the way. my ears jury is out on that one, cant make their minds up. but if hear them yourself, and if you think it is, then it is.

I disagree with suzifan. Theres truth behind about these songs that whether they are really recorded at the ark... so its not an opinion question.

Well visitor

The truth is that with some production you never will be able to discover by facts if they are black ark or even more confusing Perry productions. So I agree with Suzyfan.

Till now most people listen to the drum and decide if has the black ark sound it is a Perry production. But e.g. the Bolivar production from 1972 has got that drum but cannot be Black Ark. This 'man a scanker' hasnt got the drum but the keyboard with the right sound and 1974 is a operation black ark year. So tell me? I recalll to have read on the internet in which they say he(bolivar) had his own studio. Which studio is that???

It was my intention to list productions that even hardcore collectors find difficult to catagorize wheter or not if they are Perry productions. That is fun because on those productions the opinions vary.

Because every collector/music lover will discover eventually the 'secret' production that are obvious black ark or perry tracks. Or there must be a very very rare one. The line between obvious and not obvious is the one that is interesting.

e.g. Dick Palmar - In The Dance is an interesting imitation but not a black ark track.
