Big Youth + Sly & Robbie = Modified

Big Youth is a Reggae equivalent to Salvador Dali, going to strange musical territories only he can explore successfully. Here he drops some sick poetry and lyrics on Sly & Robbie's new "Message" riddim, inspired by the hip hop classic of the same name.

Bravo just emailed me the rough mix a couple of hours ago and I did not want to mix it or to complete recording the other artists invited to voice this. Rather, I felt I'd share it immediately, in its raw and unpolished form, because Reggae should remain a spontaneous music, with as little downtime from the studio to the street.

Enjoy

Another awesome Big Youth performance. The genius of reggae, was it you who said he is the equivalent of Gil Scott Heron Guillaume?

When will this be out? And will it be out on a format we can all get?

One of my Big Youth faves I just unearthed is 'Jah Judgement' on Big Ship from mid 90s, classic stuff!

Glad you like this rough mix version. I intend to dub it and turn this into some Andy Warhol musical equivalent. It wont be aimed at a strictly reggae crowd. I really want to fcuk it up bad! I hope to have some time this summer for this...

In the recent Reggae Britannia live show, he was the onyl artist who truly shone through all the glitz and glamour. IMHO he packed more power, conviction and personality into his all too brief set than all the other artists combined. And he can do that wearing a shiny pink suit!!! At the age of... just how old is Jah Youth nowadays?

Am still playing his recent Traffic Jam tune loads. Amazing guy
