hello

i was intially looking for a copy of the lee perry / upsetters album , "blackboard jungle dub," and i bought the auralux *"Blackboard Jungle Dub: 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle"* cd because i figured that this was the same album. however, i've now found out that the auralux version is NOT the same thing as the "blackboard jungle dub" that is listed in these archives... or is it? upon doing a bit more research, i've found that the "dub-triptych" 2CD apparently also contains the same version as the aurualux cd, not to mention the "scratch attack" cd that has "scratch & company" / "blackboard jungle dub." i'm obviously getting a bit confused now because according to the archives here, there are two different albums: "blackboard jungle" and "blackboard jungle dub"

are there?

i guess that i'm looking to get a hold of the "blackboard jungle DUB" album but now i have no idea which edition is the one i need to go after... can someone please help me?

thanks,
steve

You have the definitive copy in the Auralux issue.
It has just been given different names with other issues. Some have had incorrect track listing and mixes, but rest assured you will not need to buy any other versions.;)

Yeah stick with what ya got. I bought the Dub Triptych because it was cheaper than 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle and because it also featured the albums Cloak & Dagger and Revolution Dub but 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle is actually a fine album.

thanks a lot! i have to admit to not finishing the liner booklet all the way through before posting. they were written by david katz, the same guy who wrote the PEOPLE FUNNY BOY book about perry. here is exactly what he wrote:

*Unlike the subsequent reissues of this disc as Blackboard Jungle Dub, which compromised only 12 songs that had been re-sequenced and altered, Upsetters 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle collected fourteen Upsetter dubs mixed in true stereo with definate channel seperation where the rhythm track is in one channel and solo instruments or percussion drift in and out of the other.*

its also good that that portion regarding the channel seperation is mentioned, because when i started listening to it for the first time, i was wearing headphones and it felt like i was listening to one of the rolling stones early albums where all the instruments aren't actually mixed in stereo, but mono channels that are cut to the immediate left and right, so it actually almost feels like you are hearing two sections of the same piece of music in completely opposite sides of a large room. when i took my headphones off and turned on my large stereo speakers, i was greatly surprised and relieved to find that the sound was PERFECTLY dubbed out. its so strange how our ears work sometimes...
