Wasup fam!

New to the site and also fairly new to one of the greatest bands "Midnite". Just purchased Anthology and was curious about the album cover. The picture with the what looks like a boy sitting with his legs crossed with an hour glass in front of him. Anyone know the meaning behind this? Thanks for any help.

A small side note but the image is lifted from the Unpolished CD.

...and the live "94117" CD that came out a few years back, as well as Vaughn Benjamin's book "Koll Pekude".

Never seen either of them. Midnite were quite interesting there in the start but then I tired of them. Would be nice to know what albums of their releases after Unpolished are worth investing in.

I'm thinking the hour glass might reference »Time is the master« or something like that.

...also in my black t-shirt... i am a fan :)

well, midnite is a world on its own... what makes them really special is the peculiar vocal style of vaughn benjamin and his terrific songwriting...

i cant deny that after about 30 albums in 10 years musically there have been a detrivement, but this is mainly due for 2/3 of these albums for not being "straight" midnite albums but rather collaborations, everytime with different collectives of musicians..

after more than 350 songs he may sounds ripetitive at times but he still has something to say and his style is unique

an album every roots fan deserves to himself is

RAS MEK PEACE (before reverb and without delay)

issued in 99 before unpolished but recorded later, the subtitle cames from the fact that the whole album session was recorded in an environment by 5 musicians (the band core) and mastered live to a two-track analog tape with no mixing board, filtering, compression, equalization, noise reduction, multitracking or overdubbing of any kind.

...every track is an anthem, sound is naked and raw and lyrics are deeeeeep !!!!

read the full credits, linear notes and lyrics directly here...

another great fan page with lyrics and more that i recommend is

from which i extract of "the valyou", from the album Geoman ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCA7ruZTyVI

read while listening to the song and start dig midnite a little deeper!

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s not for everyone
So Jah say, “My sheep hear my voice”
To honor Haile I Selassie I and come
Your interior far reaches locked up
Self-imposed
How well
you feel?
Don’ lock down
Powers of the soul

Way they see life
The will of the collective strong
Is the only definition of right
And so they rejoicin’ in the seizure of
To uproot the trees just right before they reach full life
Callous to the facts that his life is related to the tree life
And this is life

Whoa the Valyou
Remember the day?
The day when the say, “Swear to God of your hands
You may now, right and left you may.”
The same book that validate the Herb usage for the wellness of man
And state that this is right
And so them say, “Perjury mean you swear upon this book
and then proceed to bare face lie.”
So this book is a court document of moral magnitude?
Unimpeachable? the God spell in your sight?

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s not for everyone
So Jah say, “My sheep hear my voice”
To honor Haile Selassie I and come
interior far reaches
Self-imposed of yourself
How well you feel?
Don’ lock down
Self-imposed, how ya feel, don’ lock down

Whoa, the Valyou
Okay, once again, mek I see if I got this right…
So this book is a court document of moral magnitude?
Unimpeachable? the God spell you say in your sight?
Which, which if any part do they heed or read?
The same book would free I, if any I talk `bout
Read in the light.
Well how much times? How much times Herb mentioned
In a numerous etymological disguise?
How much times Herb mentioned
In a numerous word sound tangle of disguise?
Cor star who is Regulus? Who is Cepheus? Canopus?
Starry in the skies
Starry in the skies
Whoa the Valyou
Way them see life, way they see life is that
the will of the collective strong
Is the only definition of right
And so they rejoicin’ in the seizure of to uproot the tree
Right just before them reach full life
Callous to the fact that his life is interrelated biologically
To the tree life,
`cause this is life
