The versions of African and Jah Guide alone justify the bying of the Equal Rights Reissue. The sound quality is good I'd say. But I guess my ears are too f'ed up anyway.

I'm curious as to whether they're actual dubplates, or dubs that were recently-created from the master tapes.

ok, here's what I can tell you

Watcha gonna do dubplate - very bassy dub version

Igziabeher - vocal version with extra lyrics ("kill dem dead before dem spread")

Second Hand - dub version

I am that I am - complete with vocals

Heavy Razor - vocal version with extra lyrics ("you coulda eat asphalt, you coulda eat brick for crackers...")

African - dub version

Jah guide - dub version

Hammer - complete with vocals

the sound quality is good to excellent...imho they did a good job in restoring these old tapes and singles

I've just got Equal Rights and I'll get Legalize It now for sure. They clearly spent a lot of time on the packaging, with great photos and liner notes.

Soundwise, I'm no expert, so I can't really give a proper description. You can tell that the dubplate cuts originate from dubplates, but I'd agree that the sound varies from good to excellent. They certainly sound WAY better than a lot of the dubplate versions on 'Sound System Scratch', so if you didn't have a problem with those then...

Normally I don't get too excited over Peter Tosh, but the Equal Rights package looks really good!
