Been waiting for this one for years (don't tell me I'll be disappointed; I'm never disappointed by Perry, just amused!). Pipecock Jackxon rereleased by Honest Jon's and available now!

Now I know why I saw 4 original copies (while I did not saw any for years) the last few weeks in second hand stores here.....

It was recorded in Amsterdam as far as I know while Perry lived there for a short period of time before moving to the UK.

I think it's recorded mostly at the Black Ark, but with some overdubs done at a studio in Holland...

Just been listening to songs from this album on you tube....Honest Jon's normally only releases gold dust, but really this Perry album is garbage isn't it?

Apart from die hard Perry fans, what reggae collector is going to want this?

I'm a bit surprised to be honest. Wasn't expecting an album like this to be re-released by Honest Jon's. I can't remember too clearly how this album sounds other than that I was disappointed and chose not to pick it up when I had the chance. Price was I think 190 SEK (£18).

They should have released more material from Wareika Hill Sounds. There you have some highly underrated contemporary sounds. That Calvin Bubbles Cameron EP is still a record I draw regularly.

those, like me, who love "Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread" / "The Return Of The Super Ape" will definitely also like Who Killed The Chicken, Babylon Cookie Jar... and Som Have Fe Halla!(tu)

I've only ever heard it on mp3 and that was my opinion of it too, TBH. Sounded like an overproduced, self-indulgent mess to me.

"For a brief period as the Black Ark was becoming unglued, Scratch changed his name to Pipecock Jackxon. With some help from a Dutch record label, Black Star Liner, Scratch attempted to resurrect the Black Ark with bizarre results (including a pond in the drum booth). One of the results of the ill-fated Dutch intervention was The Return Of Pipecock Jackxon, a strangely enjoyable album recorded both at the Black Ark and a studio in Holland. It is the last album to feature the sound of the Black Ark, and although much more loosely structured than either of these albums, it is reminiscent of late Black Ark works such as Roast Fish Collie Weed And Corn Bread as well as Return Of The Super Ape. In fact, some of the tracks are actually out-takes from the Roast Fish sessions. Hard to find, but worth seeking out for historical reasons, as it is a fascinating snapshot of the end of an era."
